ASUS Introduces New Graphics Cards with World of Warcraft Trial and Collectibles

ASUS today launched a new co-op campaign with NVIDIA, which features a promotion in association with Blizzard Entertainment to include a 14-day trial for Blizzard’s popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft, along with a collectible door hanger, with select ENGT200 Series graphics cards.

Galaxy Dual GTS 250 Accelerator Tested

Galaxy's graphics card in the works that uses two GeForce GTS 250 GPUs has finally taken shape. Galaxy designed this card out of NVIDIA's specifications, from scratch. The company also designed a cooler that uses two GPU heatsinks, each with spirally-projecting aluminum fins, with its own 80 mm fan, and a heatsink over other parts of the card such as memory and VRM. The card draws power from two 6-pin power connectors. It has 512 MB of GDDR3 memory per GPU.

Out of the box, the card comes with clock speeds of 600/1500/1000 MHz (core/shader/memory). With the bundled Galaxy Magic Panel HD software, it can be overclocked further. In a certain test, clock speeds of 675/1000/1696 MHz were used. A 3DMark Vantage run with Performance preset yielded a score of P13964. In the pictures, the piece of PCB sticking out next to the PCI-Express interface is a rudimentary spacer. It won't be present on retail cards.

Galaxy Designs Dual-Core GeForce GTS 250 Graphics Accelerator

Whereas NVIDIA is inching towards releasing its DirectX compliant GF100 GPU from which it has high expectations, some of its partners don't seem to give up on the two-generation old G92. Galaxy has almost finished designing a graphics card that uses two GeForce GTS 250 GPUs on one PCB, in an SLI on card setup. It refers to the card as "DualCore GTS250", and consists of a long blue PCB which holds two G92-426 GPUs (G92-426 GPUs are used on low-power variants of the GTS 250).

Each GPU is wired to 1 GB of GDDR3 memory across its 256-bit wide memory interface (total 2 GB on board). The two GPUs are connected to the system over an nForce 200 BR-03 bridge chip. The multi-GPU system is contained within the board, with no SLI fingers for expansion, even though G92 chips are Quad SLI capable.

EVGA Announces GeForce GTX 275 Co-op Graphics Accelerator

EVGA's Halloween offering, the mystical graphics accelerator with two different GPUs - each handing one kind of task - is official. Behold the EVGA GTX 275 Co-op PhysX accelerator. This unique graphics accelerator uses an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 GPU to handle the primary task of graphics processing, while offloads GPGPU related tasks, such as game physics acceleration using the company's PhysX technology, to a second GeForce GTS 250 GPU. While the GTX 275 component has 896 MB of GDDR3 memory across its usual 448-bit wide interface, the GTS 250 has 512 MB of it across its 256-bit wide interface, 1280 MB total on board (though not the total amount of memory available to a 3D application).

While not intended to be a true dual-GPU accelerator in essence that the two GPUs work in tandem to render graphics, the design ensures that the GeForce GTX 275 works with zero overhead from processing PhysX. The two GPUs are not part of an SLI multi-GPU array. With the provision of two SLI fingers, users can pair up to three of these in a 3-way SLI array. It is logically possible to pair this with other normal GeForce GTX 275 accelerators as well.

EVGA and NVIDIA Design Unique Multi-GPU Graphics Accelerator

EVGA and NVIDIA are readying a unique multi-GPU graphics accelerator this Halloween, slated for October 30. To celebrate its launch, the two have organized a launch party for 300 lucky participants who will go to the NVIDIA Plaza in Santa Clara, CA and witness the launch of the new GeForce product. The accelerator packs two GPUs: a G200b, and a G92b. That's right, a GeForce GTX 200 series GPU, with a GeForce GTS 250 GPU. This is perhaps the first graphics accelerator to pack two entirely different GPUs. How it works, however, is interesting: the G200b GPU handles graphics, while the G92b is dedicated to PhysX processing. Radeon HD 5750 Pictured, Tested

A Chinese tech community member pictured, and tested a Radeon HD 5750 graphics accelerator, which is intended to be AMD's flagship product in the sub $150 market segment. Unlike the Radeon HD 5770, which is pictured with a different cooler that resembles that of the Radeon HD 4770 (AMD reference), and Radeon HD 3870, this card makes do with a GPU cooler essentially similar to that of the more common Radeon HD 4770 cooler design, except for a few changes with the fan and the cooler shroud. Under the black, egg-shaped shroud is a heatsink with radially-projecting fins, in which is nested a red 80 mm fan. Everything else on the card, relies on its air-flow.

Toshiba Unveils High-Performance Qosmio X500 Multimedia Laptop

Leadtek GeForce GTS 250 v2 Pictured

Leadtek designed a new simple, low-cost graphics accelerator based on the GeForce GTS 250 graphics processor. The GTS 250 v2 comes in a compact, yet fully capable form-factor. It has a short PCB, a GPU cooler that spans its entire length, and clock speeds that adhere to NVIDIA's reference speeds, at 738/2200 MHz (core/memory), and comes in 512 MB and 1 GB variants. Its cooler comprises of a GPU block from which three aluminum heatpipes convey heat to a dense aluminum fin array, with a fan nested in the center. The card's VRM and memory come with heatsinks, and are cooled under the fan's airflow. The card requires a single 6-pin PCI-Express power connector. The card is 3-way SLI capable with other GeForce GTS 250 accelerators. Leadtek may price these on the lower side of the spectrum, where they provide good value.

Galaxy Packs 3D Vision Glasses with Select Graphics Accelerators

NVIDIA partner Galaxy announced that some of the newest batches of its GeForce GTS 250 accelerator will be bundling a company-branded pair of anachrome diopter glasses dubbed Galaxy 3D Vision Discover. The glasses are compatible with NVIDIA's stereoscopic GeForce 3D Vision technology, and lets you play 3D games with depth perception. Galaxy advertises these glasses as a "free" inclusion, so it shouldn't affect the price of the graphics accelerator. Considering durable anachrome glasses can cost anywhere over $20, and NVIDIA's 3D Vision kit over $150, this offer looks impressive. Sadly it's for a limited time period.

Galaxy Readying GeForce GTS 250 Cool Edition

Galaxy is preparing yet another GeForce GTS 250 SKU, this one labeled "Cool Edition", owing to its design that focuses on the GPU cooler. The card uses the usual Galaxy shade of blue colour. The PCB holds a 5-phase VRM for the GPU and memory, and is cooled by dedicated heatsink. The center of attraction is the GPU cooler, which looks elliptical. From its central GPU contact base made of copper, arise several radially-projecting, forked aluminum fins. Nested in a plastic shroud is an 80 mm fan for active cooling, while the memory cools directly under its airflow.

This card comes in two variants based on memory size: 512 MB and 1 GB. It uses fairly standard clock speeds of 702 MHz (core), and 1000 MHz (memory). Output connectors include DVI-D, D-Sub, and HDMI with provision for audio routing from your sound-card. The card can pair with two more of its kind (or GPU at least), for 3-way SLI. Expect standard pricing when this hits stores soon.

GeForce GTS 240 Spotted in OEM Channels

NVIDIA's move to rebrand the GeForce 9800 GTX+ to GeForce GTS 250 was meant to be followed with a similar rebranding for the GeForce 9800 GT, to GeForce GTS 240. The company even prepared a reference PCB design for the accelerator. Alas, the move wasn't popular NVIDIA's partners, who forced it shelve the plans.

Apparently NVIDIA wants to continue development of the GeForce GTS 240, at least for its OEM customers, if not AIC partners that cater to the retail consumer segment. The GeForce GTS 240 reference design accelerator is in accordance with the schematics that surfaced back in February, and maintains a single-slot design overall. Under the hood is the 55 nm G92b graphics processor with 112 shader processors, a 256-bit GDDR3 memory interface, 1 GB of memory, and reference clock speeds that match that of GeForce 9800 GT OC: 675/1620/1100 (core/shader/memory). The card supports 2-way SLI, and should be priced in the sub $130 space.

Inno3D has recently added GeForce GTS 250 to its iChill custom line of video adapters. The Inno3D iChill GeForce GTS 250 is equipped with Arctic Cooling's Accelero Twin Turbo PRO cooler that uses a four-heatpipe design and twin 92 mm fans to provide cooling that is superior to the stock cooler. With it, the iChill GTS 250 manages to post temperatures 23'C lower than the reference design boards and also drops noise levels significantly. The new iChill card has a G92 GPU clocked at 738 MHz, and 1 GB of GDDR3 memory clocked at 2300 MHz. The Inno3D iChill GeForce GTS 250 should hit stores later this month.

Consider a GPU Upgrade Before CPU: NVIDIA

Ahead of the bulk of the crucial summer shopping season, NVIDIA sent a circular urging consumers to focus their PC upgrades on GPUs, rather than CPU and its platform. It thinks that if you have a reasonably good platform from last year or the year before, a GPU upgrade serves as a better price for performance increment when it comes to games. A slide explaining NVIDIA's advice was leaked (perhaps ahead of its formal publication, as it seems to be targeted at end-users and not intermediate customers or distributors).

Quite simply, the slide shows how upgrading the GPU is a more cost-effective way of increasing performance of a gaming PC, compared to upgrading the platform (CPU, compatible motherboard and memory). The side specifically targets the Intel Core i7 platform, and pits the upgrade path against upgrading the graphics components, keeping the rest of the PC constant, based on the common Core 2 Duo E8400. The price of this base system along with a GeForce GTS 250 GPU is measured at $506. A $159 upgrade to GeForce GTS 250 SLI sends the average FPS (application not mentioned) up to 54 from 42, likewise as you look further up the options NVIDIA provides. Upgrading the rest of the platform is making no performance impact on this application. The general idea conveyed is that for a gaming PC with recent generation hardware, better graphics is a better incremental upgrade. Choose with your wallet.

ECS Readying GeForce GTS 250 with Highest Core Clock Speed

ECS is readying new custom-designed graphics accelerators based on the GeForce GTS 250 GPU, with the highest factory overclocked settings. There are 2 GB and 1 GB variants of the ECS GTS 250 Black Edition, which features a core clock speed of 815 MHz, and memory running at 2200 MHz (1100 MHz actual). While the shader clock speed isn't known at the moment, the core speed qualifies as the highest factory overclocked speed for the GTS 250. ECS uses an elaborate dual-fan cooler for the 2 GB variant, while a slightly simpler single-fan one cools the 1 GB variant. Interestingly, the cards rely on a single 8-pin PCI-E power connector, instead of the dual 6-pin power inputs used by many overclocked GTS 250 models. ECS is yet to announce the models. Production-grade cards may feature a black-colored PCB instead of the blue one pictured, to stay in tune with its name "Black Edition".

Galaxy Rolls-out New GeForce GTS 250 With Faster Memory

Graphics major Galaxy pulled out another GeForce GTS 250 accelerator from its hat, this time, laying design emphasis on the cooler and memory. The new cooler design, as claimed by the company, keeps temperatures up to 5 °C cooler than what a reference-design cooler would manage. To bring about electrical stability, Galaxy used a 5-phase power circuit. Its 512 MB of GDDR3 memory is made of high-performance 0.8 ns DRAM chips made by Samsung. This, again as the company claims, offers memory overclocking headroom till 1300 MHz (2600 MHz DDR), from its stock speed of 1100 MHz (2200 MHz DDR). Its clock speeds are in tune with the reference speeds: 738/1836/2200 MHz (core/shader/memory). Its price is yet to be known.

ECS Prepares Watercooled GeForce GTS 250 SLI Combo Video Cards

Our Turkey colleagues from Donanimhaber report of a new Elitegroup combo, that consists of two ECS GeForce GTS 250 Hydra cards. Set to be sold under limited numbers, the NGTS250-512MX-W and NGTS250-1GMU-W Hydra packs contain two 512 MB or 1 GB GeForce GTS 250s, a Thermaltake BigWater 760i water cooling system to chill them and a game bundle to make the offering even more tempting. Most likely both SLI combos will come with stock clocks - 738 MHz for the core, 1836 MHz for the shaders and 2200 MHz for the memory - but with water cooling on top overclocking them yourself won't be a problem. Expect the new ECS couples to become available sometime next week.
