GeForce GTX 760 Last 700 Series SKU for 2013?

NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce GTX 760 could be the company's last GTX 700 series retail desktop SKU, at least for this year. A leaked slide by the company lays out how this year's three new GTX 700 series SKUs pretty much seal the product stack. It reveals that GeForce GTX TITAN will remain NVIDIA's flagship graphics card throughout the year. The thousand-dollar single-GPU card is based on the GK110 silicon, with 2,688 CUDA cores, and 6 GB of memory. The GeForce GTX 780, introduced this March, replaces the GeForce GTX 680 on the product-stack, even at its much higher launch price of $650, compared to its predecessor's $500. The GTX 780 has no competition from AMD at its price-point.

The slide also reveals that the GeForce GTX 770, which was launched late last month, will replace the GeForce GTX 670 from the stack. Based on the GK104 silicon, it features 1,536 CUDA cores, and 2 to 4 GB of memory. Given that it has a lot in common with the GeForce GTX 680, albeit with higher clock speeds, GPU Boost 2.0, its $400 pricing surprised us. The GeForce GTX 770 outperforms AMD's HD 7970 GHz Edition, and is generally priced on-par. The only definitively faster AMD card is the $1100 HD 7990 "Malta," which makes the GTX 770 the king of its segment.

Microsoft Pulls a Fast One with E3 Xbox One Demos

With its focus on on-demand entertainment at the expense of gaming prowess, Xbox One didn't impress gamers at E3, who instead flocked to Amazon to pre-order their PlayStation 4, which not only features faster hardware, that could translate to better visuals in gaming, but is also a whole 20 percent cheaper ($499 vs. $399). At E3, Microsoft tried to pull a fast one. It set up several gaming stations allegedly powered by Xbox One, where gamers could play unreleased Xbox One games using the new Xbox One controller, just to get a feel of how rich and smooth the graphics really are. Some of them fell for it, others didn't. When these peeping toms didn't find the screens wired to an Xbox One main unit, they yanked open the cupboards below, only to find a full-fledged Windows 7 gaming PC.

How full-fledged you ask? Keen observers across the forumscape made out a rig powered by an Intel LGA2011 processor, which could at least be a Core i7-3820, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 700 series reference design graphics card, which could at least be a GeForce GTX 770. Such a system would obviously give you a rich and smooth gaming experience.

GIGABYTE Announces GeForce GTX 770 WindForce 3X OC with 4GB

GIGABYTE announced a variant of its GeForce GTX 770 WindForce 3X graphics card with a factory-overclock, and 4 GB of onboard memory. Pictured below, the card combines a non-reference design PCB designed in-house by GIGABYTE, with its new WindForce 3X cooler, which can handle thermal loads of up to 450W. The card ships with clock speeds of 1137 MHz core, 1189 MHz GPU Boost, and 7010 MHz memory; against NVIDIA-reference speeds of 1046 MHz core, 1085 MHz GPU Boost, and 7010 MHz memory.

The card features 4 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 256-bit wide memory interface, which at its given speed, churns out a respectable 224 GB/s of memory bandwidth. The memory is spread across sixteen 2 Gbit memory chips, eight located on the reverse side of the PCB, without a back-plate. The new WindForce 3X cooler uses two aluminum fin stacks to draw heat from the GPU, using six copper heat pipes; which are then ventilated by three 80 mm fans. The cooler works to keep GPU temperatures under 80°C, letting it sustain GPU Boost clocks. GIGABYTE should price the card at $499.99. A lucky few may have bagged it on Newegg for $449.

ELSA Announces GeForce GTX 770 SAC

ELSA rolled out its GeForce GTX 770 SAC (silent air cooling) graphics card (model: GD770-2GERX). It combines a custom-design PCB with its SAC cooling solution, both of which appear to be Inno3D designs. It offers factory-underclocked speeds of 1046 MHz core, 1070 MHz GPU Boost, and 7.00 GHz memory. The SAC cooler uses a series of copper heat pipes that make direct contact with the GPU, which convey heat to a monolithic aluminum fin-stack. This is ventilated by a pair of 80 mm fans, suspended on a die-cast metal shroud that's easily detachable by turning six thumb-screws. The card draws power from a combination of 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe power connectors; display outputs include two dual-link DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort. The card should be priced on-par with most reference-design GTX 770 cards.

EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Classified and GTX 770 Classified Pictured

The Classified brand extension marks the very best from EVGA's stable. The company showed off its GeForce GTX 780 and GTX 770 Classified cards, which combine a meaty new variant of its ACX cooling solution, with custom-design PCBs. The GTX 780 Classified should make EVGA ready for when NVIDIA allows custom-design GTX TITAN. Drawing power from two 8-pin PCIe power connectors, the GTX 780 Classified appears to feature a 14-phase VRM, which makes the PCB a good inch or two taller than most full-height cards. That's also a reasonable trade-off to keep the cooler dual-slot, which would greatly help with SLI builds using the card. Moving on to the GTX 770 Classified, the card offers a similar 14-phase VRM, draws power from a pair of 8-pin connectors, features 4 GB of memory, and features an ACX identical cooling solution to the GTX 780 Classified. EVGA didn't disclose clock speeds, both cards appear to feature redundant BIOS, the GTX 780 Classified features header for an EVBot-like device.

The GeForce GTX 770 SOC is among the five attractions at Galaxy's Computex booth. With GTX 770 being not so different in design to a GTX 680, we imagine Galaxy to have spent very little R&D in coming up with the GTX 770 SOC (super-overclock), which looks nearly identical to the GeForce GTX 680 Hall of Fame aka KFA2 GTX 680 Limited Edition OC V4 graphics card from last year. You get the same all-white combo of non-reference design PCB and cooler, the same strange display I/O of a DisplayPort next to three mini-HDMI connectors, but with higher clock speeds, and GPU Boost 2.0, which will surely take advantage of the cooler to sustain boost states.

ASUS Shows Off Republic of Gamers Poseidon Graphics Card

The GTX 670 DirectCU Mini cooler earned ASUS engineers tons of respect (and hopefully sales) from enthusiasts. The same crew unveiled a new high-end graphics card in the company's Republic of Gamers (ROG) family, based on a performance-segment GeForce GTX 700 series GPU, the ROG Poseidon. The card features a unique new cooler that combines an air-based cooler, with a full-coverage liquid-based one. Users have the choice of running the completely on air, completely on water (with the fan shut off), or with both in concert (air+liquid). The solution works with a common full-coverage base that makes contact with the card's GPU, memory, and VRM, which is in contact with both a complex ain-array, and a coolant channel. An ROG logo on the cooler's top lights up red, and can either stay at a set brightness, or pulsate. The company didn't finalize clock speeds, or launch date.

ASUS today announced the GeForce GTX 770 DirectCU II, based on the 28nm NVIDIA GTX 770 GPU, with 1536 CUDA cores and 2GB of GDDR5 memory and a 256-bit interface. The core runs at up to 1110MHz while memory is rated for 7010MHz. The card delivers strong DirectX 11 gaming that carries on from the successful GeForce GTX 600 series with more energy efficient performance. ASUS-exclusive features add value and important capabilities to this already-powerful card, providing PC gamers an attractive new option.

Tough to make apart from GeForce GTX 780 and GeForce GTX TITAN visually, the GTX 770 is based on the 28 nm GK104 silicon, configured similarly to the GeForce GTX 680 from the previous generation, albeit with higher clock speeds, GPU Boost 2.0, and a stronger VRM to sustain those higher clock speeds. The card ships with 1046 MHz core, 1085 MHz GPU Boost, and a blistering 7010 MHz (GDDR5-effective) memory. It features 2 GB of memory, 4 GB variants could launch soon.

The GeForce GTX 770 packs 1,536 CUDA cores, 128 TMUs, and 32 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface. At its given memory speeds, it could belt out 224 GB/s of memory bandwidth. GIGABYTE was a little early in making the product page of its upcoming GeForce GTX 770 WindForce OC graphics card live, much to our delight. Here are some of the first pictures of GIGABYTE's creation (model: GV-N770OC-2GD). The card looks nearly identical to the GeForce GTX 780 WindForce OC we reviewed last week. It uses the same WindForce cooling solution that's designed to handle thermal loads as high as 450W. The specifications tab in the product page gives out clock speeds of this factory-overclocked card, which are 1137 MHz core, 1189 MHz GPU Boost, and 7.00 GHz memory. At this point, we can't tell if the card is based on an NVIDIA reference-design PCB, it lacks NVIDIA markings.

GeForce GTX 770 Specifications Leaked, Could Surprise with Pricing

NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 770 could end up being the product we expected it to be specifications-wise, but could surprise with pricing, according to retailers in Tokyo's Akihabara electronics shopping district. On paper, the GTX 770 is virtually identical to the GeForce GTX 680, albeit with higher core clocks, and a record memory frequency. The chip features 1046 MHz core, 1085 MHz of GPU Boost, and a staggering 7.00 GHz (1750 MHz actual) memory.

If true, the GTX 770 should be the highest-clocked GPU ever built. These clocks bolster the same 14-month old GK104 silicon we're all too familiar with. To support these clocks, the card draws power from a combination of 6-pin and 8-pin power connectors, and features a rated TDP of 230W. The card features a cooling solution identical to the GeForce GTX 780 and GTX TITAN, which should make it an attractive buy. The part that intrigued us the most is that retailers expect it to sell for 40,000¥, which should roughly convert to US $390~400. At this price, the GTX 770 should wreak havoc among AMD's ranks, and even make GTX 680 and GTX 670 much cheaper.

TechPowerUp GPU-Z 0.7.1 Released

TechPowerUp announced GPU-Z 0.7.1, the latest version of the popular graphics subsystem information, monitoring, and diagnostic tool. Version 0.7.1 adds support for new GPUs, and an experimental feature that lets you investigate power-capping on some of the newer generations of NVIDIA GPUs (needs GeForce 319.xx or later drivers). To begin with, GPU-Z 0.7.1 introduces support for NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce GTX 780 and GeForce GTX 770 graphics cards, along with support for AMD's new Radeon HD 8000M, HD 8000G, and HD 8000D series GPUs/IGPs, including the HD 8310G, HD 8410G, HD 8450G, HD 8510G, HD 8550G, HD 8610G, and HD 8650G; and a few exotic GPUs, such as GT 730M, GT 750M, GTX 780M, GRID K1, GRID K2, and HD 7730.

GeForce GTX 680 Can Be Flashed to GTX 770?

No you can't, but read on. When we learned that NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce GTX 770 uses a GPU not unlike the GeForce GTX 680 in specifications, we overlooked one possibility, that it uses the same exact chip, the GK104. We assumed that NVIDIA could release a new ASIC codenamed "GK114" or "GK204," which features higher energy-efficiency, and GPU Boost 2.0.

A Reddit user claims that a simple BIOS flash of the GeForce GTX 680 could turn it into a GeForce GTX 770. The BIOS ROM image, which probably works with reference-design GTX 680 boards was posted, along with a GPU-Z screenshot of a "GeForce GTX 770" obtained this way. The BIOS runs the card at 1059 MHz core, 1125 MHz maximum GPU Boost, and 1752 MHz (7.00 GHz GDDR5-effective) memory, yielding a memory bandwidth of 224 GB/s. The BIOS file can be found here (try it at your own risk). We tested the BIOS with some of our own GTX 680 cards, and found it to be nothing more than a modified GTX 680 BIOS (for increased clocks) with a modified driver INF file that makes the GeForce driver display a different model name. The BIOS just has made-up clock speeds that could run on some GTX 680 cards, but could be unstable on most.

We created four additional GPU-Z screenshots to serve as evidence that just by modifying the INF file, you can make the card appear as anything you want. The string from the INF file is used in Windows for display purposes only; the graphics driver does not use it for anything else; certainly not feature detection.

When your GTX 680 manages to be stable with the new BIOS, the higher clock speeds obviously work to get you that 5-7 percent performance increment. Third-rate companies often get away selling rebranded fake graphics cards in developing markets using this method. For example, they buy cheap GeForce 210 cards and sell them as GT 630 for twice the money. Even between officially rebranded NVIDIA graphics cards (such as GeForce 8800 GT to 9800 GT), the device ID is changed, so there's no reason why NVIDIA won't do the same with the GTX 770. In conclusion, this "GTX 770" mod is nothing more than a combination of a custom GTX 680 BIOS that adds higher clock speeds, and a custom INF file that changes the card's name string.

Are These GeForce GTX 780 and GeForce GTX 770?

NVIDIA's next-generation GPU family is not far away. We're hearing that new product-launches from the GPU giant could be just weeks away, and within this month. It's only natural that some of these cards could pass through leaky pipes, much to our benefit. One such source in China posted pictures of what he claims to be NVIDIA-reference design GeForce GTX 780 and GeForce GTX 770. Both cards feature a design not unlike the $1000 GeForce GTX TITAN. In fact they look identical. It's not the questionable embossing on the cooler shrouds that caught our attention, it's the subtle differences near the PCI-Express interface - location of PCB number, arrangement of termination resistors, etc., that did, and so we're rating this leak highly plausible.

We know from a previous report that GeForce GTX 780 will be positioned a notch below the GeForce GTX TITAN, in NVIDIA's product stack. It could be based on the same GK110 silicon, and could feature 2,496 CUDA cores, and a 320-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 5 GB of memory. It won't surprise us if NVIDIA completely recycles the GTX TITAN PCB, as it doesn't particularly have an over-the-top selection of components, apart from the GPU. The GeForce GTX 770 is a different beast altogether. It is based on a GPU not unlike the GK104, with 1,536 CUDA cores, and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 4 GB of memory. To sweeten the prospect of upgrading to these new cards, NVIDIA is dropping in the same sexy magnesium alloy-based cooling solution it used on $1000 cards such as the GTX TITAN and GTX 690.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 700 Series Coming This May

AMD may have declared that its next-generation GPU family won't arrive before October, but that isn't stopping NVIDIA from launching its GeForce GTX 700 series much earlier. While AMD's lineup is banking on sales during the X'mas shopping season, NVIDIA is going after the pre-Summer system upgrade crowd. According to a Bright Side of News (BSN) report, NVIDIA's new lineup will make its debut no later than this May.

According to the BSN report, GeForce GTX 700 series will be heavily based on existing GeForce Kepler silicon, with a handful feature-set updates, and some clever product stack adjustments. The part that succeeds today's GeForce GTX 680, the GeForce GTX 780, could be based on the 28 nm GK110 silicon, and could very well be the fabled "GTX TITAN LE" part that's been in the news for some time now, as being a scaled down GeForce GTX TITAN, with 2496 CUDA cores, 208 TMUs, 40 ROPs, and a 320-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 5 GB of memory.
