Colorful Custom RTX 4060 Ti GPU Clocks Outed, 8 GB VRAM Confirmed

Resident TechPowerUp hardware database overseer T4C Fantasy has divulged some early information about a custom version of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GPU card - Colorful's catchily named iGame RTX 4060 Ti Ultra White OC model has been added to the TPU GPU database, and T4C Fantasy has revealed a couple of tidbits on Twitter. The GPU has been tuned to have a maximum boost clock of 2580 MHz, jumping from a base clock of 2310 MHz. According to past leaks the reference version of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti has a default boost clock of 2535 MHz, so Colorful's engineers have managed to add another 45 MHz on top of that with their custom iteration - so roughly 2% more than the reference default.

T4C Fantasy also confirmed that the Colorful iGame RTX 4060 Ti Ultra W OC will be appointed with 8 GB of VRAM, which also matches the reference model's rumored memory spec. T4C Fantasy points out that brands have the option to produce RTX 4060 Ti cards with a larger pool of attached video memory, but launch models will likely stick with the standard allotment of 8 GB of VRAM. The RTX 4060 Ti is listed as being based on the Ada Lovelace GPU architecture (GPU variant AD106-350-A1), and T4C Fantasy expects that Team Green will stick with a 5 nm process size - contrary to reports of a transition to manufacturing on 4 nm (chez TSMC foundries).

Low-profile, Single-slot AMD Radeon RX 6300 Graphics Card Hits the Chinese Grey Market

A curious OEM-only AMD Radeon RX 6300 desktop graphics card surfaced on Chinese peer-to-peer marketplaces. The card is a true single-slot, half-height (low-profile) graphics card, with an active fan-heatsink based cooling; and two display outputs—a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports. The card draws all its power from the PCIe slot, and features a PCI-Express 4.0 x4 host interface. The RX 6300 is based on the same 6 nm "Navi 24" silicon as the RX 6400 and RX 6500 XT, although it is rumored to be heavily cut down. The mobile RX 6300M has 768 out of 1,024 stream processors enabled, so one can expect a similar cut-down for the RX 6300. Perhaps the most interesting piece of specifications is the memory—2 GB GDDR6. It's possible that the card has a puny 32-bit memory interface, half that of the 64-bit interface the "Navi 24" is capable of. The person selling it has it listed at just ¥399 RMB (around $60).

Graphics Card Prices Doubled on Average Between 2020 and 2023: Mindfactory Data

Mindfactory.de is hardly the largest tech retailer out there, but it's renowned for putting out its sales figures in public that provide sharp market insights. The latest of these concerns graphics card average selling price (ASP). The store notes that graphics card ASPs have doubled in a span of just 3 years, which marks an unnatural deviation from inflation, and cannot adequately be explained by rising chip costs due to Moore's Law either buckling or losing relevance. While Intel is a firm believer in Moore's Law, and to a smaller extent so is AMD (which disaggregated its CPUs and GPUs to continue shipping cutting-edge products at lower costs); NVIDIA considers Moore's Law dead, and thinks it needs to keep bigger and bigger GPUs to offer generational performance uplifts.

The store notes that as on February 2020, the AMD Radeon graphics card ASP stood at 295.25€, with the store having made 442,870€ in sales. For NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards, the ASP figure stood at 426.59€, and total sales at 855,305€. As of Feb 2020, AMD lacked high-end products (this was before the RDNA2 comeback), and so the NVIDIA ASP is higher. Fast forward to February 2023, and we see a doubling in the ASPs. For AMD Radeon graphics cards, this stands at 600.03€, with €1.02 million in sales; and for NVIDIA GeForce, the ASP is at 825.20€, with €1.84 million in sales.

GIGABYTE Launches the GeForce RTX 4090 AERO OC 24G Graphics Card

PowerColor Launches Radeon RX 7900 XTX Liquid Devil Flagship Graphics Card

PowerColor on Wednesday formally launched its flagship graphics card, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX Liquid Devil. Designed for enthusiasts with DIY liquid-cooling setups, the Liquid Devil is essentially an RX 7900 XTX Red Devil, but with a factory-fitted full-coverage water block instead of the massive air cooler. The block has been made by EK Water Blocks, and consists of a nickel-plated copper main material, with a clear-acrylic top, and some vinyl decals. The top is studded with ARGB LEDs. The block lacks fittings, but has G 1/4" threading, and PowerColor has included goodies such as an EK-Loop Leak Tester Flex kit (lets you check for coolant leaks).

The PowerColor RX 7900 XTX has an ace up its sleeves that positions it above the Red Devil OC—the "Unleash" BIOS. The card has a dual-BIOS setup, with the default BIOS being labeled "OC" and the other one being "Unleash." OC enables speeds comparable to the Red Devil OC—2395 MHz game and 2565 MHz boost (vs. 2269 MHz game and 2499 MHz boost AMD reference speeds). PowerColor is yet to spell out the clock speeds of the "Unleash" BIOS, but we're hearing that it will be even higher (possibly the highest factory OC for the RX 7900 XTX), along with increased power-limits. The PowerColor RX 7900 XTX Liquid Devil should be available from mid-February, 2023.

Running Discord Lowers NVIDIA GPU Memory Clocks by 200 MHz, Company Posts Workaround

The Windows app of Discord, the popular social-networking software, apparently trims the graphics card memory clock of NVIDIA GPUs by an innocuous 200 MHz, or so observe gamers. NVIDIA GeForce GPUs dynamically adjust memory clock speeds in response to load, as part of their power-management. Ideally, with gaming workloads, the GPU is supposed to hit its maximum rated memory frequency, but some keen-eyed gamers with monitoring tools noticed that with the Discord app running in the background, the memory clock tops out at T-minus 200 MHz (i.e. if it was supposed to be 7000 MHz, it tops out at 6800 MHz). Even under the infernal stress of Furmark, something that's designed to push memory clocks to the maximum rated speeds until the graphics card runs into thermal limits; the memory clock is seen falling 200 MHz short.

NVIDIA took note of this issue, and assured that a fix is on the way in a future GeForce driver update. In the meantime, it posted a DIY workaround to the problem that involves downloading the GeForce 3D Profile Manager utility, making the utility "export SLI profiles" (applicable even to single-GPU machines), editing the exported SLI profiles file as a plaintext document, and importing the profile back. This basically alters the way the driver behaves with the Discord app running. The NVIDIA 3D Profile Manager utility can be downloaded from here, and step-by-step instructions on using it to fix this issue, here.
Update Feb 6th: NVIDIA released a GeForce driver application profile that automatically downloads to your driver, which should fix this issue. You don't need GeForce Experience to receive the update.

GUNNIR Outs 16GB Arc A770 Photon Graphics Card with Triple-Fan Cooler

GUNNIR, the Chinese Intel Arc board partner, unveiled a 16 GB version of its Arc A770 Photon graphics card with specs that partially match Intel's A770 16 GB Limited Edition. Custom-design versions of the A770, such as the one from ASRock Phantom Gaming, only come with 8 GB of memory. The card comes with GUNNIR's heaviest dual-slot, triple-fan cooling solution. While the card offers an overclocked GPU, with the A770 running at 2.40 GHz (compared to 2.10 GHz reference), the memory runs at the same 16 Gbps GDDR6-effective speed as the A770 8 GB version, and not the 17.5 Gbps that the A770 16 GB Limited Edition comes with. This leaves you with a still-respectable 512 GB/s of memory bandwidth on tap. The card draws power from two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. GUNNIR is pricing the card at RMB ¥3,199 ($470).
