LG Electronics (LG) today announced the newest version of its popular Bluetooth stereo headset, LG TONE ULTRA (HBS-800). This feature-packed model is the worthy successor to the LG TONE (HBS-700/730), a top-seller with more than two million units sold since its introduction in 2010.

The TONE ULTRA was developed specifically to provide a superior audio experience with eyebrow-raising stereo sound. By adopting noise reduction - also known as ambient noise cancellation (ANC) - technology, the TONE ULTRA blocks out background noise, allowing the listener to focus on the music or conversation without distractions.

LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced third-quarter 2013 consolidated revenues of KRW 13.89 trillion (USD 12.51 billion). While competitive conditions in the TV sector and an unfavorable foreign currency exchange rate affected overall revenues compared with the 2012 third quarter, sales of mobile devices increased year-over-year by 24 percent. LG saw a 27 percent increase in third-quarter operating profit to KRW 217.80 billion (USD 196.34 million) compared with the same period last year.

The LG Home Entertainment Company reported revenues of KRW 5.01 trillion (USD 4.50 billion), a 7 percent decline from the same period a year ago, reflecting slower global TV demand and lower selling prices. Higher sales in developing markets such as Asia and the CIS region were offset by softness in Europe. Operating profit of KRW 124.40 billion (USD 111.68 million) increased both year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter as a result of more efficient management of operating and marketing expense. As it enters the holiday selling season, LG plans to expand global sales of premium products such as OLED TVs and Ultra HD TVs while continuing to carefully manage costs.

LG Electronics USA today launched two new "UltraWide" 21:9 aspect ratio* LED monitors designed to offer professional tools for effective multitasking and excellent gaming experience. Models EA73 and LN450W, which will be on sale in late September, also employ LG's advanced In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology and 2560 x 1080 resolution capability* to deliver exceptional picture quality. "Picture quality is always the number one priority when LG designs display products, but we also focus on versatility," said Tim Alessi, director of new product development at LG Electronics USA. "Our new UltraWide monitors exemplify that focus with features that make them ideal for home-office professionals, students, gamers and casual users alike."

Dell moved ahead of Samsung in the worldwide PC monitor market for the first time since 2007, shipping more than 5.0 million units in the second quarter of 2013 (2Q13). Total PC monitor shipments for the quarter were 33.5 million units, which was 1.6 million units more than forecast but still represented a year-over-year decline of -0.7%, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly PC Monitor Tracker.

"Dell grew its unit shipments by 12.7% compared to the first quarter of 2013, which vaulted the company into the number one position worldwide. However, Samsung continues to be the worldwide revenue leader, despite its declining shipment numbers," said Jennifer Song, Research Analyst, Worldwide Trackers at IDC. "On a geographic basis, China remained the largest market for PC monitors with 29.2% share, followed by the U.S. with 18.4% share. The number three market, Brazil, trailed by some distance with 4.3% share."

LG Korea has today launched a couple of new, Haswell-powered ultrabooks, a 13.3-inch model known as 13Z930 one with a 15.6-inch display dubbed 15U530. Part of the Ultra Series, these two portable devices feature an IPS screen, a Core i5-4200U processor and a 128 GB solid state drive (the 15U530 also packs a 750 GB hard drive), and run Windows 8. The 13Z930 also has Intel HD 4400 graphics, while its 15.6-inch sibling includes a 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 720M card.

The 13Z930 is just 13.6 mm thick and weighs 1.15 kg, whereas the 15U530, which includes an optical drive, is 20.9 mm thick and 1.95 kg.

In addition to the ultrabooks, LG also revealed the 11T730 Windows tablet. This one is also equipped with a Core i5-4200U CPU and a 128 GB, and has a slide-out keyboard.

LG Display, the world's leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that it has developed the world's first LCD panel for monitors featuring Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) technology in collaboration with Intel Corporation. This new 23.8-inch LCD panel is the latest improvement that allows users to stream wirelessly their laptop and desktop content to their TVs and monitors in a more seamless manner.

LG Display succeeded in developing a panel that provides Intel WiDi solution by building in a key chipset directly into the LCD module. With this cutting-edge LCD panel embedded with Intel WiDi solution, LG Display enables users to enjoy quality images with an easy and convenient access to Intel WiDi technology without the use of additional devices, as well as facilitate OEMs and monitor makers nimbly and cost-effectively adopt this advanced technology.

It looks like LG doesn't see the new 21:9 "ultra-widescreen" aspect-ratio as something that caters to a niche, and is bent on making it the next mainstream resolution. The company rolled out its second and third 29-inch ultra-widescreen monitors, the 29EA73-P, and 29EB73-P; pictured in that order below. Both are 29-inchers, offering a native resolution of 2560 x 1080 pixels. Both feature a plethora of inputs, including dual-link DVI, DisplayPort, a pair of HDMI ports (including an MHL). Both offer USB 3.0 hubs, 7W stereo speakers, and audio out; but differ in design, and hence, dimensions. The 29EA73-P measures 699.7 x 387.0 x 197.2 mm, weighing 5.9 kg; while the 29EB73-P measures 699.7 x 395.3 x 225.0 mm, weighing 6.9 kg. While LG didn't announce pricing, the 29EB73-P is expected to be a tiny bit pricier among the two; while both could be cheaper than the 29EA93 series.

LG used the ultra-widescreen IPS LED panels from its EA93 29-inch monitor to create the first all-in-one desktops to feature the dizzying 21:9 display aspect-ratio. The new V960 desktop from LG combines the 2560 x 1080-pixel display, with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M GPU, that's capable of handling most media and everyday tasks, at its resolution. Other hardware specs are known to include Intel Core i5 processor.

The V960 also includes a standalone TV tuner, which lets you use it as a TV, while keeping the PC component powered down. You also get the option to PIP (picture-in-picture) both facets, watching TV, while working on the PC. In addition to all that, the V960 can work as a standalone monitor, taking input from HDMI and MHL. LG also unveiled a variant of the EA93 that lacks the PC component, but features the TV tuner, and an additional DisplayPort input. The V960 is priced in the range of US $1,300 and $2,020, depending on the hardware configuration; while the tuner-equipped monitor is priced around $600.

LG Electronics (LG) is introducing its 2013 collection of IPS monitors, featuring new concepts such as UltraWide, ColorPrime and Touch 10, perfectly matched for entertainment, professional applications and touch-based interaction, respectively. All three models, which will be unveiled at next week's 2013 International CES, employ LG's advanced IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology to deliver exceptional picture quality and raise the bar for displays this year.

Announced at the end of August, and showcased at IFA 2012, LG's 27EA83 WHQD monitor has started to be listed by European stores, as a pre-order item. This 27-inch widescreen display featured an LED backlight, an IPS panel, a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a 6 ms response time, 350 cd/m2 brightness, a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connectors, a 3-port USB 3.0 hub, and a stand enabling height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustment.

The 27EA83 can be found priced at €727.

The European Commission has fined seven international groups of companies a total of € 1,470,515,000 for participating in either one or both of two distinct cartels in the sector of cathode ray tubes ("CRT"). For almost ten years, between 1996 and 2006, these companies fixed prices, shared markets, allocated customers between themselves and restricted their output.

One cartel concerned colour picture tubes used for televisions and the other one colour display tubes used in computer monitors. The cartels operated worldwide. The infringements found by the Commission therefore cover the entire European Economic Area (EEA). Chunghwa, LG Electronics, Philips and Samsung SDI participated in both cartels, while Panasonic, Toshiba, MTPD (currently a Panasonic subsidiary) and Technicolor (formerly Thomson) participated only in the cartel for television tubes. Chunghwa received full immunity from fines under the Commission's 2006 Leniency Notice for the two cartels, as it was the first to reveal their existence to the Commission. Other companies received reductions of their fines for their cooperation in the investigation under the Commission's leniency programme.

OnLive, the leader of on-demand cloud gaming, announced that its OnLive Game Service has just been integrated into the LG Smart TV with Google TV (G2 Series), making console-quality games instantly playable as part of the TV experience. The OnLive app is the first commercial deployment of instant-response cloud gaming in a TV with no console necessary. OnLive offers something that consoles can't: the ability to continue playing your saved games on the go, on nearly any PC or Mac, and many Android tablets.

The OnLive app was delivered over the air today to the LG G2 Series TVs that are already in homes and will be preinstalled on future LG Google TVs. With the OnLive Wireless Controller (available at onlive.com/controller), LG G2 TV owners in the United States can go to the Premium Apps menu on their TVs and play hundreds of video games on demand. The OnLive catalog includes games from more than 80 publishers, with everything from blockbuster new releases to classic franchises to family-friendly sports, racing and action-adventure games.

LG Electronics has now announced that in Europe its newly-released 29-inch monitor, the EA93, will bear a price tag of €599 (~ $764). Set to ship in the EU at the end of this month, LG's display features an IPS panel, a native resolution of 2560 x 1080 pixels, a 5 ms (GtG) response time, 300 cd/m2 brightness, a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1, two built-in 7 W speakers, a three-port USB 3.0 hub, and DVI, HDMI (x 2) and DisplayPort inputs.

The 29-inch screen offers ample screen real estate, a 4-Screen Split feature and 100 percent sRGB color space expression to provide better multitasking and multimedia capabilities. The Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) Foundation today announced that LG Electronics has joined as a member. LG's diverse product portfolio and industry experience are valuable additions in helping HSA and its members reach common goals, ultimately benefiting consumers. With LG Electronics on board, new possibilities emerge as the fusion of HSA and LG's current IP bring a whole new level of interactivity for consumers- from home appliances to entertainment systems, the HSA foundation acquires greater depth in the smartphone, tablets, TV, digital cameras, game consoles and even the E-reader space. LG Electronics (LG) introduced its Touch 10 monitor (model: ET83), optimized for use with Windows 8, which was launched by Microsoft last week. Whereas conventional touchscreens enable two-finger dragging, scrolling and pinching, LG's 23-inch Touch 10 monitor allows all ten fingers to be used simultaneously. The Touch 10 monitor is an excellent choice for those looking to enjoy an enhanced touch computing experience without having to upgrade their entire PC.

LG Electronics (LG) today reported a solid third-quarter performance with the third consecutive quarter of positive net income and all four companies recording strong operating profits. Better-than-expected performance in the mobile and home appliance businesses helped offset a slight decline in overall year-over-year sales for the third quarter.

Third-quarter net profit of KRW 157 billion (USD 138.57 million) with operating profit recording KRW 221 billion (USD 195.06 million) showed significant improvements from the loss in the same period last year. Third-quarter revenues fell 4 percent year-over-year to KRW 12.38 trillion (USD 10.93 billion) due to the continuing decline of feature phone sales and overall weak demand.

Today LG Electronics has revealed some of its first products running Windows 8, the H160 tablet boasting a slide-out keyboard and the V325 all-in-one PC. The H160 is 15.9 mm thick, it weights 1.05 kg and features a 11.6-inch IPS touchscreen, WiFi, USB and HDMI ports, a microSD card slot, and a battery allowing for up to 10 hours of operation.

The V325 has a 23-inch (1920 x 1080) screen supporting 10-finger multi-touch, a Core i5 processor, a GeForce GT 640M graphics card, a TV tuner, and it comes bundled with a remote control. In addition to the H160 and V325 LG will also be releasing (this week), another all-in-one desktop, the ET83, and two ultrabooks, the Z355 and Z460, all pre-loaded with Windows 8 of course.

LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled its new T-Series zero client in Barcelona at Citrix Synergy, a global conference focusing on cloud computing, virtualization and networking. LG Cloud T-Series is the company's next-generation zero client available as either a monitor (CAT42K) or a standalone box (CBT42) to connect to an existing screen. Running independently, both versions employ the Citrix HDX technology and a next-generation Texas Instruments (TI) system on a chip (SoC) offering high performance with greater security through zero client.

"With the LG Cloud T-Series, we're expanding our reach into the zero client market while widening its range of VDI offerings," said J.J. LG released the M2352J-PM, a 23-inch Smart TV/monitor in Japan. It embeds an IPS LCD panel with LED backlit illumination. As a monitor, it features 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution (no surprises here), 178° V/H maximum viewing angles, 250 cd/m² maximum brightness, mega-contrast (5,000,000:1), and 14 ms (GTG) response time. Display inputs (relevant to PC display) include three HDMI, and a D-Sub (VGA) connector. As a TV, it features Home Dashboard software that gives you access to most common internet features, including YouTube, a web-browser, and access to e-mail. It features a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port for internet connection. TV connectivity and subscriber access technologies local to Japan are included. It is slated for late-October.

The LG TONE+ not only provides a richer and clearer all-round audio experience, but also supports VoLTE (Voice over LTE) calls, enabling the user to hold conversations in High Definition (HD) sound between VoLTE-capable devices.

LG Electronics (LG) unveiled two new premium IPS moni-tors today at the IFA tradeshow in Berlin, the EA93 and EA83. The EA93 is designed to enjoy variety of entertainment and the EA83 is specifically crafted to handle graphics-intensive applications. The most noticeable feature on the EA93 is the cinematic screen, a 21:9 display - the same ratio used in real movie theaters -that works as a superb solu-tion for home entertainment and multitasking. The EA83 lets consumers take advantage of Wide Quad High Definition (WQHD) resolution (2560x1440 pixels). WQHD offers ample screen real estate for power users looking to multitask and provides one of the widest color spaces available. The monitor accurately reproduces 99 percent of the Adobe RGB color palette, providing graphics experts with a superior level of imaging quality.

IPS panel major LG is readying a pair of new widescreen, high-resolution monitors for launch at IFA Berlin, the EA93 and EA83. The two incorporate LG's IPS LCD panels with LED illumination. The EA93 is a 29-inch ultra-widescreen monitor featuring a 21:9 aspect-ratio, with 2560 x 1080 pixels native resolution. The 27-inch EA83, on the other hand, features a more conventional 16:9 aspect-ratio, with 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution.

The EA93 is designed to support 4-way split screen, taking inputs from four different connectors: dual-link DVI, DisplayPort, HDMI, and MHL. The EA83 supports dual-link DVI, DisplayPort, and HDMI, and offers 99 percent coverage of Adobe RGB palette. The EA93 and EA83 are slated for market-launch in November.

LG Electronics (LG) announced the global roll-out of its premium IPS7 series monitors, launching first in the Asian markets of Korea and China, including Hong Kong. The IPS7 series features LG's own CINEMA SCREEN Design, with an almost invisible bezel for an unobstructed entertainment experience and a sophisticated, modern appearance. The IPS7 series also delivers lifelike color consistency and representa-tion across a wider viewing angle, thanks to LG's own IPS technology. The addition of Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) makes it easy to connect external devices, like smartphones, for immersive viewing on a larger screen.

Fence-sitters in the massive LCD panel price-fixing case, LG, AUOptronics, and Toshiba, finally agreed to pay their share of fines to settle. The three combined will pay US $571 million in fines, according to an attorney for the plaintiffs. The amount includes US $27.5 million in civil penalties for eight state governments (Arkansas, California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New York, West Virginia and Wisconsin).

In late-December 2011, the first set of fines were collected from LCD panel majors Samsung, Sharp, Hitachi, HannStar, and Chimei Innolux; who cumulatively paid US $553 million in the price-fixing case, as LG, AUO, and Toshiba abstained. AUOptronics was faced with the prospect of having to pay fines as high as US $1 billion. The case involves alleged price-fixing and cartel behavior by LCD panel makers in the period between 1996 and 2006, which stunted LCD panel development, and overpriced products to the consumers, by stifling competition.
