Super Talent displayed its first consumer SSDs based on SandForce SF-2000 series controllers. Super Talent is readying a new ultra high-performance "flash drive". In principle, it's a SandForce-driven SSD on a stick. The device consists of a SandForce SF-1222 SSD processor with MLC NAND flash chips occupying eight channels; the SF-1222 is connected to a SATA 3 Gb/s to USB 3.0 host bridge chip. While there have been such devices in the past, this is the first time anyone has put the SandForce controller into a device this compact.

Since the SF-1222 is operating with half its channels occupied, the performance is about half as well. A quick run of CrystalDiskMark yields about 143.3 MB/s sequential read and 63 MB/s writes.

Super Talent backed up release of its DuraDrive MT SSD series with a new 32 GB variant of the Express Duo USB 3.0 flash drive. The 32 GB variant is priced at US $59, twice that of the 16 GB variant (priced $29). Measuring 67.8 x 17.2 x 7.7 mm, and launched in early November, the Express Duo presents an "affordable" range of flash drives that use the faster USB 3.0 interface. The 32 GB Express Duo offers read speeds of 67.3 MB/s and write speeds of around 24 MB/s. "The USB 3.0 Express DUO has been our best selling USB 3.0 flash drive to date. We are please to offer the larger capacity 32GB at such an aggressive price point. With USB 3.0 prices like these, there's simply really no reason to buy a USB 2.0 flash drive anymore," said COO of Super Talent CH Lee.

Super Talent introduced its newest line of solid state drives (SSDs), under the UltraDrive MT series. The 2.5-inch form-factor SSDs make use of SATA 3 Gb/s interface, and are driven by an optimized Indilinx Barefoot controller. The drives make use of either SLC or MLC NAND flash chips. The read/write speeds on the UltraDrive MT is rated at 255 MB/s reads and 250 MB/s writes. The latest version of the Barefoot controller which is used in these drives support the TRIM garbage-collection feature that maintains write performance over time. UltraDrive MT should be available in typical capacities from 32 GB to 256 GB. The pricing, however, is not known.
