Super Talent Announces DataGuardian Series Secure USB Flash Drives

Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced the DataGuardian, a password protected USB flash drive that makes data security easy, affordable and usable.

By now almost everyone who owns a PC is familiar with USB flash drives. They are incredibly useful and have become an indispensible part of our computing environments. We all know that we should be using a secure solution, but the fact is security solutions are expensive, cumbersome and limit the usefulness of a flash drive. Most security solutions require the installation of a program, managing public/private partitions and administrative rights. These limitations often create more problems then they solve and have dramatically slowed the adoption of secure USB devices.

To be branded under the TeraDrive FT3 and TeraDrive CT3 series, SuperTalent's new SSDs will be available in a wide range of capacities starting from 50 GB, all the way up to 480 GB. Built in the 2.5-inch form-factor, the drives use SATA 6 Gb/s interface to support read/write speeds of over 500 MB/s, and "impressively fast random read/write speeds".

Super Talent Starts Shipping New UltraDrive MT SSD

Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced a refresh to their Ultra Drive SSD series, the new UltraDrive MT. SuperTalent's new SATA II SSD is equipped with the new Barefoot controller-plus Indilinx Martini firmware, offers a host of attractive new features and performance, without breaking the bank. This new 2.5" SATA drive includes the latest reliability features including: Garbage collection, Trim support, Wear leveling and ECC, designed to keep this SSD running at optimum performance for the life of the drive.

"The UltraDrive MT offers an important balance between price and performance. Now is a great time to upgrade to an SSD"., said Super Talent COO, CH Lee. The Ultra Drive MT posts an impressive 255MB/s Read and 250MB/s Write speed. The new Barefoot controller, and Indilinx Martini firmware, offers a substantial increase random write performance over its predecessor. Performance of these smaller random blocks is important for OS and application performance and thus has a noticeable impact on the drive's overall performance. Available in capacities of up to 240GB, Ultra Drive MT is the optimal performance upgrade option at an attractive price.

Super Talent Readies SandForce-Driven USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Super Talent is readying a new ultra high-performance "flash drive". In principle, it's a SandForce-driven SSD on a stick. The device consists of a SandForce SF-1222 SSD processor with MLC NAND flash chips occupying eight channels; the SF-1222 is connected to a SATA 3 Gb/s to USB 3.0 host bridge chip. While there have been such devices in the past, this is the first time anyone has put the SandForce controller into a device this compact.

Since the SF-1222 is operating with half its channels occupied, the performance is about half as well. A quick run of CrystalDiskMark yields about 143.3 MB/s sequential read and 63 MB/s writes.

Super Talent Intros 32 GB Express Duo USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Super Talent backed up release of its DuraDrive MT SSD series with a new 32 GB variant of the Express Duo USB 3.0 flash drive. Measuring 67.8 x 17.2 x 7.7 mm, and launched in early November, the Express Duo presents an "affordable" range of flash drives that use the faster USB 3.0 interface. The 32 GB Express Duo offers read speeds of 67.3 MB/s and write speeds of around 24 MB/s. "The USB 3.0 Express DUO has been our best selling USB 3.0 flash drive to date. We are please to offer the larger capacity 32GB at such an aggressive price point. With USB 3.0 prices like these, there's simply really no reason to buy a USB 2.0 flash drive anymore," said COO of Super Talent CH Lee.

Super Talent Intros UltraDrive MT Series SSDs

Super Talent introduced its newest line of solid state drives (SSDs), under the UltraDrive MT series. The 2.5-inch form-factor SSDs make use of SATA 3 Gb/s interface, and are driven by an optimized Indilinx Barefoot controller. The drives make use of either SLC or MLC NAND flash chips. The read/write speeds on the UltraDrive MT is rated at 255 MB/s reads and 250 MB/s writes. The latest version of the Barefoot controller which is used in these drives support the TRIM garbage-collection feature that maintains write performance over time. UltraDrive MT should be available in typical capacities from 32 GB to 256 GB. The pricing, however, is not known.

Super Talent Introduces USB 3.0 Express RAM Cache Drive Series

Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced they are now shipping their new "USB 3.0 Express RAM Cache drive". Available in 32 & 64GB capacities, this new drive implements a DRAM caching system to boost small block random performance by up to 300%. As most manufacturers are announcing their first USB 3.0 flash drive, SuperTalent we is announcing their fourth. SuperTalent is also currently the only USB flash manufacturer offering a caching system on their drives.

"We've made the first, fastest, hardware encrypted, and most affordable USB flash 3.0 flash drives, now with the Express RAM Cache, we are offering affordable cache support on USB 3.0." - SuperTalent COO, CH Lee. Sequential read and write speeds only show how a drive will perform when copying large files. In "real world" applications, we are often reading and writing 100's of smaller files and in some cases even booting to the drive. In these instances traditional flash designs show their weakness and a caching system can dramatically improve performance. For example, say you wanted to copy 40 MP3 files to your flash drive. By adding a caching system, the Express RAM Cache drive can now write these same files 260% faster; instead of taking 13 seconds, this transfer now takes less than 5 seconds. As the file size decreases and the file count increase, this time savings becomes even more apparent.
