NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 GPU Available for Below MSRP in Germany

Two years and a half into its storied career, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 GPU has finally dropped below MSRP in one European territory. German customers will be stoked to jump on e-tailer CaseKing's new offer - ZOTAC's Gaming GeForce RTX 3070 Twin Edge LHR graphics card is currently available for 449 EUR (not counting additional fees), so a saving of 50 Euros from the recommended retail price (499 EUR/$499). 3DCenter seems to be the first hardware news outlet to report on an RTX 3070 GPU dropping under RRP. The RTX 3070 and 3060 Ti models have been best sellers for NVIDIA (and board partners) since late 2020, yet buyers have long complained about unreasonable asking prices, and semi-generous discounts have been very late in arriving - just in time for the succeeding model.

3DCenter has created an overview of the graphics card market in Germany and Austria, and its findings for May 2023 indicate a trend where: "GPU prices in Euros have consistently dropped by ~10% since the end of January, in single cases up to 20%." The overview places the RTX 3070 8 GB in a price bracket position between AMD's Radeon RX 6750XT 12 GB and RX 6800 16 GB (non-XT) SKUs, which brings recent marketing strategies to mind - Team Red thinks that their cards offer the buyer more VRAM for their money when cross examined with the competition.

Most Expensive RTX 4080 Custom Just $50 Shy of the RTX 4090 MSRP: MicroCenter Pricing Leak

The most expensive custom-design NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 will be priced at $1,550, putting it just $50 short of the $1,600 baseline MSRP of the much faster RTX 4090, according to a pricing leak of custom-design cards on popular PC components retailer MicroCenter. The most interesting takeaway from this leak is that there will actually be RTX 4080 cards at the NVIDIA-set baseline MSRP of $1,200. These include the GIGABYTE Eagle, ZOTAC Trinity, ASUS TUF Gaming, and PNY XLR8 Verto. NVIDIA appears to be telling its partners to sell at least one custom-design RTX 4080 SKU at the baseline price.

Most factory-overclocked custom-design RTX 4080 SKUs are within $125 of the $1,200 baseline, with the GIGABYTE Eagle OC priced at $1,240, GIGABYTE Gaming OC at $1,280, MSI Ventus 3X OC at $1,280, and the premium MSI Gaming X Trio at $1,325. The top-tier custom-design cards start here, with the GIGABYTE AORUS Master priced at $1,350, the MSI SUPRIM X (air-cooled) at $1,400, the ZOTAC AMP Extreme AIRO at $1,400, ASUS TUF Gaming OC at $1,500; and the ASUS ROG Strix OC at $1,550, which is just $50 short of the cheapest RTX 4090 (baseline-spec). Will anyone pick the ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4080 O16G over the cheapest RTX 4090 (assuming availability of both)? That's a social experiment to watch out for.

NVIDIA Partners Beginning to Carve Out RTX 3070 Ti From Larger GA102 Dies

NVIDIA manufactured a heap of large "GA102" Ampere silicon to cater to demand from the crypto-mining boom; only to see that demand vanish. With next-gen RTX 40-series awaiting ramp; the company has to digest these GA102 chips somehow, and is apparently letting its partners use them on performance-segment SKUs such as the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. The RTX 3070 Ti is normally based on the GA104 silicon, which it maxes out, enabling all 6,144 CUDA cores, 48 RT cores, 192 Tensor cores, 192 TMUs, and 96 ROPs, besides the chip's full 256-bit wide GDDR6X memory interface. This SKU is now being carved out on the larger GA102, by enabling 48 out of 84 streaming multiprocessors (just 57% of the CUDA cores enabled); and narrowing the memory bus from its normal 384-bit, down to 256-bit.

The memory size remains at 8 GB, memory type at GDDR6X, and memory speed at 19 Gbps, working out to 608 GB/s of bandwidth. The most interesting aspect of carving the RTX 3070 Ti out of the GA102 has to be board power; with a ZOTAC-branded card listing it at 320 W, higher than the 290 W of GA104-based cards from the company. Sadly, this is a China-only SKU. Every custom-design graphics card, especially from a reputed AIC such as ZOTAC, has to go through qualification with NVIDIA; which means NVIDIA is not only aware of GA102-based RTX 3070 Ti cards, but is behind fusing the SMs to carve out the SKU, and developing the video BIOS and driver support. ZOTAC is kind enough to list the ASIC code on its website, and for this SKU it is "GA102-150-xx."

ZOTAC Launches ZBOX edge CI342 Mini-PC

ZOTAC launched the ZBOX edge CI342, a compact fanless mini-PC powered by an Intel Pentium N6415 "Elkhart Lake" quad-core processor clocked at speeds of up to 3.00 GHz. The ZBOX measures just 147.2 mm x 147.2 mm x 32.1 mm (WxDxH), with a passive cooling solution for the SoC that has a TDP of just 6.5 W. It offers an impressive set of connectivity options, which include DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0b making up the display outputs; three 5 Gbps USB 3.1 ports that include a type-C, a microSD card reader, two 1 GbE wired LAN interfaces, and Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.2 WLAN. It's still being sold as a "barebones," meaning that you add your own RAM and storage. Memory options include two DDR4 SODIMM slots (dual-channel), and the only storage interface is an M.2-2280 slot with PCI-Express 3.0 x2 wiring. ZOTAC is also offering a non-barebones complete prebuilt with Windows 11, which includes one 4 GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM stick, and a 128 GB NVMe SSD.

8-pin PCIe to ATX 12VHPWR Adapter Included with RTX 40-series Graphics Cards Has a Limited Service-Life of 30 Connect-Disconnect Cycles

PSUs with native 12+4 pin ATX 12VHPWR connectors are few and far between, which means some of the first adopters of the GeForce RTX 4090 "Ada" graphics cards will rely on the adapter cable that converts 8-pin PCIe power connectors into one 12VHPWR connector that plugs into the graphics card. Cards that stick to the baseline specs include adapters that convert three 8-pin PCIe connectors (for 450 W output that matches the RTX 4090 reference specs); whereas some premium overclocked RTX 4090 cards, such as the ZOTAC RTX 4090 AMP Extreme, include adapters that convert as many as four 8-pin PCIe to a 12VHPWR, maxing out its 600 W power delivery capability. The product page of the ZOTAC AMP Extreme has an interesting sentence describing this in-box adapter: "Limited service life with up to 30 connect / disconnects."

Apparently the adapter is only good for up to 30 connect/disconnect cycles safely, before you'll need another one. For most gamers who'll install the card and forget about it for years, this shouldn't be an issue. However, for overclockers and enthusiasts using the card on an open-air bench and who rely on a lot of moving cards around, this could be an irritant. Tech journalists (reviewers) swap graphics cards out a lot, too, but then they're likely to have several such adapters lying around from multiple samples, or a PSU with a native 12+4 pin connector.

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC Box Leaked

NVIDIA has a leaky tap to fix with the part of the supply chain that makes retail boxes for its next-gen graphics cards. After last weekend's leak of the ZOTAC RTX 4090, we now have one of the GIGABYTE RTX 4090 Gaming OC. It confirms the new typeface NVIDIA is using for the main branding of its RTX 40-series. The card itself features a mammoth triple-slot (possibly even quad-slot) cooling solution that's almost 1.5x what constitutes "full-height" for add-on cards. The box art also confirms 24 GB GDDR6X as the memory configuration of the RTX 4090. NVIDIA is expected to unveil the RTX 40-series next week at GTC; with retail availability from early-Q4 2022.

ZOTAC RTX 4090 Graphics Card Pictured

The tentative day of announcement for NVIDIA's next-gen RTX 4000 series is fast approaching, with an expected announcement from NVIDIA through its GeForce Beyond broadcast, scheduled for September 20th at GTC. And with time running out until we see what NVIDIA has laid in store for us, photographs of ZOTAC'z iteration of the RTX 4090 are already leaking about - specifically in Baidu.

The photographs showcase a production run from ZOTAC's RTX 4090 cards, featuring a complete cooling and shroud redesign for NVIDIA's next-generation. Gone are the typical straight, boxy lines of any high-tier GPU; ZOTAC seems to be taking a more curvaceous approach to design this time, with more organic lines enveloping a more mundane heatsink. The card features ZOTAC's IceStorm 3.0 cooling solution, which houses a triple-fan, triple-slot design that extends more than a third of its area over the PCB itself. There's still no confirmation on board power and the GPU powering these cards themselves, but we have some very (very) educated guesses.

ZOTAC Intros RTX 3090 Ti PGF OC Graphics Card in China

The Chinese market gets the very best of ZOTAC, with the company launching its flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card there, the RTX 3090 Ti PGF OC. This card is designed to be a tiny notch above the AMP Extreme Holo, and features the company's most elaborate-looking cooling solution. The card ships with the a factory-overclock of 1890 MHz boost—same as the AMP Extreme Holo—and its maximum available power limit is the same, at 495 W.

It's also likely that the PGF OC and the international AMP Extreme Holo share an identical PCB design, and the heatsink design appears similar, too. What's new is the cooler-shroud and back-plate design, which looks better thought-out than the AMP Extreme Holo: there's no hollow space toward the tail-end of the card for aesthetic reasons, with the shroud ending roughly where the heatsink does; and the backplate has a huge round vent that can take advantage of the large cutout in the PCB. The AMP Extreme Holo backplate doesn't fully take advantage of this cutout. The RGB lighting is also nicely done, across the front-face of the cooler shroud.

ZOTAC Launches its GeForce RTX 2060 12GB Graphics Card

ZOTAC today joined several other NVIDIA GeForce board partners in launching its RTX 2060 12 GB graphics card. NVIDIA pulled the RTX 2060 out of retirement, gave it a few more CUDA cores, and doubled its memory to re-launch it, as a possible answer to AMD's recent Radeon RX 6600. The "Turing" graphics architecture can still be considered contemporary, as it offers full DirectX 12 Ultimate support. The chip features 2,176 CUDA cores, 34 RT cores, 272 Tensor cores, and a 192-bit wide GDDR6 memory interface, holding 12 GB of memory. ZOTAC's board design is a cost-effective fare, with a simple aluminium fin-stack heatsink ventilated by a pair of fans. The card draws power from a single 8-pin PCIe power connector. NVIDIA hasn't released an MSRP for the RTX 2060 12 GB, so this card could cost anything.

ZOTAC Introduces the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti AMP White Edition LHR

ZOTAC today added to its NVIDIA RTX 3000-series portfolio with a white version of the RTX 3060 Ti. The ZOTAC RTX 3060 Ti AMP White Edition LHR (Lite Hash Rate) essentially reuses the cooling solution found on its darker cousin, the 3060 Ti Twin Edge, which we have reviewed here. The IceStorm 2.0 cooling solution maintains the 11-blade, dual-fan, dual-slot design, but paints the shroud in white for users that want that particular color coordination for their system.

ZOTAC have decided to slightly bump operating frequencies of the GA-104 chip powering the RTX 3060 Ti AMP White (1,775 MHz compared to the Twin Edge's 1,750 MHz). The remainder of the specs are as expected: 4,840 Ampere CUDA cores, 8 GB of 14 Gbps GDDR6 memory over a 256-bit bus, and a pair of 2x 8-pin connectors to power all the electronics up. External card dimensions stand at 231.9 mm length, 141.3 mm width, and 41.5 mm thickness. I/O is assured by the usual 3x DisplayPort 1.4a and 1x HDMI 2.1 connectors. The card is now springing up in retail stores - and considering current pricing for the Twin Edge version, listed at $659, you should expect pricing to be in the same ballpark.
