A Look Inside »

Packaging

On the face of the box the capacity of the unit is highlighted in big white fonts and right beneath it the series name, HALE82, is written. Right next to the yellow stripes there is a small window which provides view to the white cooling fan while on the front bottom side we find several icons describing crucial features like the 80 PLUS Bronze efficiency, the exclusive use of Japanese capacitors, the single +12V rail, the 120mm cooling fan and finally the five year warranty period. On the rear side of the box we find much more detailed info about the unit and a close shot of the fan along with an internals photo showing the two APFC capacitors, which are provided by Nippon Chemi-Con. On the right side of the box there are two interesting graphs showing the efficiency curve and noise the fan emits at various load levels. With over 40dBA noise output at full load we can't classify the fan as inaudible, that's for sure.

Contents

The unit is protected by two layers of packaging foam with the top layer featuring a large gaping hole in its middle, in order to make the fan visible from the packaging's small window. Also the unit is further protected by a transparent plastic bag. Along with the PSU you will find a nylon bag holding all modular cables, an AC power cord, a set of fixing bolts for chassis mounting, a re-usable cable tie and the user's manual.

Exterior

The white colored fan nicely matches with the black finish and somehow compensates the lack of decals on the PSU sides. Only an engraved NZXT logo can be found on one of the two sides while the power specifications label is located on the bottom of the unit. On the front we find the classic honeycomb exhaust grill along with the AC receptacle and an On/Off switch and on the rear side there are six modular sockets. Four native cables pass through the cable exit hole, which is equipped with a grommet; all of them are fully sleeved all the way back into the housing.
