OverclockingThe overclocks listed in this section were achieved with the default fan and voltage settings as defined in the VGA BIOS. Please note that every single sample overclocks differently, that's why our results here can only serve as a guideline for what you can expect from your card.
Maximum stable clocks of our card are 1215 MHz core (22% overclock) and 1365 MHz Memory (14% overclock).
GPU overclocking is decent, but a little bit lower than other HD 7870 cards we tested before. Memory overclocks not so much, because Sapphire chose to use Elpida memory instead of Hynix which overclock much better.
|Maximum Overclock Comparison|
|Max. GPU Clock||Max. Memory Clock|
|Sapphire HD 7870 Flex||1215 MHz||1365 MHz|
|MSI HD 7870 HAWK||1260 MHz||1600 MHz|
|ASUS HD 7870 DC II||1260 MHz||1620 MHz|
|AMD HD 7870||1205 MHz||1520 MHz|
Important: Each GPU (including each GPU of the same make and model)
will overclock slightly differently based on random production variances.
This table just serves to provide a list of typical overclocks for similar cards,
reached during TPU review.
Overclocked PerformanceUsing these clock frequencies we ran a quick test of Battlefield 3 to evaluate the gains from overclocking.
Actual 3D performance gained from overclocking is 14.8%.
