Spire Pininfarina Review

The Case »

Packaging

The package of the Pininfarina is quite large. It is made of heavy duty cardboard which comes in a black base color. The front shows you the actual case inside the box, which in this case is the silver variant. The rear features a short but clear list of the features. There is an image of the "butterfly" door as well. I was wondering why this case is so heavy, with a packed weight of 16.2 kg, but after noticing the 6.0 mm Aluminum and Steel construction the weight made sense.

Spire packs the case inside a plastic bag and secures it inside the box using foam spacers. These are more expensive than Syrofoam and have the advantage of surviving a bump or drop without getting crushed. The entire Aluminum part is covered by a thin plastic film, which came right off, while pulling the bag off the case. There is a warning on this film, that you should not use the door locks as handles, as they cannot carry the weight of the chassis. Once unpacked, the very thick aluminum, which spans the entire case becomes apparent.

Contents

The only thing that was included inside the case is a small pamphlet with support addresses and a small diagramm to aid in installation. Other manufacturers include a real instruction manual with real pictures. It would have been nice to see something like that in this case as well, as it is certainly out of the ordinary.
