The Kioxia XG8 is a solid-state drive in the M.2 2280 form factor, launched on April 26th, 2022. It is available in capacities ranging from 512 GB to 4 TB. This page reports specifications for the 2 TB variant. With the rest of the system, the Kioxia XG8 interfaces using a PCI-Express 4.0 x4 connection. The SSD controller is the IG5236 (Rainier) from InnoGrit, a DRAM cache chip is available. Kioxia has installed 112-layer TLC NAND flash on the XG8, the flash chips are made by Toshiba. To improve write speeds, a pseudo-SLC cache is used, so bursts of incoming writes are soaked up more quickly. The cache is sized at 160 GB, once it is full, writes complete at 1750 MB/s. Thanks to support for the fast PCI-Express 4.0 interface, performance is excellent. The XG8 is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s and 5,800 MB/s write.
At its launch, the SSD was priced at 190 USD. The warranty length is set to five years, which is an excellent warranty period. The TBW rating for the Kioxia XG8 2 TB is unknown.

Notes

Drive:

This SSD uses "Kioxia's TC58NC0L1XGSD Controller which is the innogrit IG5236"
The XG8 also supports power loss notification (PLN) through a PCIe sideband signal. This allows the drive to flush its data to non-volatile media before power loss through host initialization. This is not the same as power loss protection (PLP), which uses a battery or capacitor to protect data-in-flight. However, theoretically, PLN could be used with off-module PLP (OMP) to add this functionality.

NAND Die:

Although this Die is a 4-plane design, most Kioxia BiCS5 NAND Dies used in most SSDs are dual planes design because of Yield and production cost.
And because of the die being dual-plane the Throughput is cut in half to 66 MB/s per die.
There is no CuA (Circuitry under Array) in the Dual-Plane variant.
Typical Endurance: 1700 P.E.C.
Rated Endurance: 3.000 to 5.000 (up to) P.E.C.
