The Seagate BarraCuda Q5 is a solid-state drive in the M.2 2280 form factor, launched in 2020. It is available in capacities ranging from 500 GB to 2 TB. This page reports specifications for the 1 TB variant. With the rest of the system, the Seagate BarraCuda Q5 interfaces using a PCI-Express 3.0 x4 connection. The SSD controller is the PS5013-E13-31 from Phison. Seagate has installed 96-layer QLC NAND flash on the BarraCuda Q5, the flash chips are made by Micron. To improve write speeds, a pseudo-SLC cache is used, so bursts of incoming writes are handled more quickly. The cache is sized at 250 GB. Copying data out of the SLC cache (folding) completes at 45 MB/s. The BarraCuda Q5 is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 2,400 MB/s and 1,700 MB/s write.
At its launch, the SSD was priced at 85 USD. The warranty length is set to three years, which is above average, but shorter than the five years offered by many other vendors. Seagate guarantees an endurance rating of 274 TBW, a relatively low value compared to other SSDs.
