If they pop up on Windows Update, why wouldn't you?

As far as DX, if you haven't updated it at all, yes, you need to run it.

Have run the dx march update, although the dotnetfx 3.5 sp1 I haven't seen on Wupdate... Just curious if I should manually download the 230+ mb file

Nah. .NET will show up in Win update if you don't have the latest version. No need to download it.
