how do i fix this??

ok i have XP 64 on one disk and then i installed vista 64 on my other disk. well i have to boot from the disk with xp and select either vista or earlier version of windows. i want to reformat and install a new o/s on my XP disk but vista wont let me reformat because the boot sector is on that disk. how do i get it to boot from my disk with vista on it so i can reformat my xp disk?? i tried moving the bootsec.bak file to the vista disk but it still sys ntldr is missing when i try to boot from my vista disk. any help is appreciated. thanks

If you want to reformat your XP hdd, unplug the Vista hdd, put the XP or Vista disc in the CD drive and boot from that. You can then format your hdd.

but my vista disk wont boot just from the disk it for some reason will only boot if i boot from the disk with xp on it then choose windows vista to load. i dont get it

Well one thing you could do if you are having trouble with you Vista disk not being bootable is download vlite and then make a new bootable disk with it.

if you're sure....

try going into the partition section of the XP boot disk, instead of
creating a new partition, you want to delete it. if you delete all
the partitions, it should be able to reformat it!

I would suggest taking out the XP drive and leaving the Vista drive installed. Run a Vista automated repair from the Vista Installation DVD. That may repair the missing boot partition automatically for you and shouldn't risk your current data.
