X8 mobo......can it take a X16 gpu?

I have a MSI MS-7325 K9N4 SLI motherboard that supports X8 only, if i put in a 9800GTX+ at X16 will it work? Will it work at X8 meaning its only at half capacity or will it not work at all? I haven't bought them yet (im buying 2 for sli in my next build but i want to throw one into my older rig), and if one won't work i'll just buy them later....after i get my new mobo, cpu and ram. Please help, i'm stuck between what i should spend on. If anyone knows where i could get a decent X8 gpu to replace a PNY 8600GT 256Mb DDR3 gpu then that would be kewl man....

It'll run @ X8, which won't make much of a difference.

Do you know if it's pcie 2.0 or 1.1? x8 2.0 doesn't make any difference when running my 4850's over x16 2.0 but x8 1.1 might bottleneck some.

its an nf4, obviously its pcie 1.1

you will lose performance if u run it at 8x but not much, maybe 10%?

I can't find out if its a 2.0 X8 or 1.1!!! I've looked on the MSI website and the manual, it says the same thing. Also it says that it has 2 X16 slots compatible with X8 only....maybe that'll help.

this is the thing. you can put ANY pcie videocard on ANY pcie slot as long as its is open ended or is a full 16 working @4, @8, @16. the only thing that changes is the bandwith of the slot.

also can u give us a link for the mobo (too lazy to look for)

Ah-ha! I see where you found that, i looked it up on the discontinued items on newegg. Many reviews state that the claim is that the board has X16 (MSI website says the same) slots but it will only read X8, still can't find out if its a 1.1 or a 2.0. Yes it is a X8 but will it be ok for me to throw in a X16 9800GTX+ gpu?

yes.

8x slots only really matter if you're using dual-GPU cards, since they get half the bandwidth each (making them have 4x each)
