When i was a kid, i used to get 2 hours of gaming for the whole week. lol. And one new game for about 2months.

So its the parents fault for letting their children play games like crazy.

I can say the same. I have completed Rehab 2 times. 2nd was successful.

Now I'm a hardcore gamer addict. There are differences, HUGE differences between the two.

1. Gaming, even if you pull all nighters, does not even come close to affecting your health as much as cocaine use does. As a matter of fact gaming DEVELOPS your MOTOR SKILLS and PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS. COCAINE WILL DESTROY BOTH as it attacks the central nervous system in your body.

2. Gaming is not illegal. Unless you get your games from torrents...then again that's only the downloading part...the actual gaming part is still not illegal.

3. While gaming can interfere with your daily routine...cocaine will destroy it.

4. I can game in my free time and still pay my rent. Cocaine? What rent!

Give me time and I can go on. I speak from experience. And if gaming ever gave me the same "high" as cocaine did...trust you all me...I'd drop gaming and all friends who do it just as fast as I could put a PC together!!

I never get any 'gaming time' or 'computer time' limits but I think, depending on the person you are, that this is a good thing. For me, it taught me responsibility because now I know how long I can play for and when I have to stop etc. If you develop gaming problems then it is all your fault and possibly your parents, not the gaming company. Best way to fix anything is get friends, seriously, get a life and your gaming problems will go away, unless you hook up with more WoW nerds.

I get addicted to "the game" and not to gaming in general.
That is if I'm addicted to one game and I finish it, I might go weeks without gaming before I find another game worth being addicted to.

Bottom line is anything can become an addiction and it's those who are obssessed that will experience the negative consequences.

They are comparing apples and oranges. That article could have been written without a cocaine comparison and still have the same message. It does contain some valid points.

I've lost a few friends to various addictions...alcohol, drugs, gambling...

I'm sure many of us have.

Friends lost to gaming...none. If anything, I've made several friends THANKS to gaming.

I don't get the correlation. Addictive personalities are gonna find an addiction...far better to be gaming than anything else.

I pride myself on being a fantastic parent. I didn't really have parents growing up(they exist, but weren't a real part of my childhood), so I tend to take it to the extreme, because I can truly blame my mis-spent youth on a lack of parental figures.

You'all should know by now, I stay home, jobless, so that I am here for my kids, 24/7. It's working out great for my family...

Not every family is able to do that though. I am very fortunate to have a "professional" wife that can pay our bills on her own...

Far too often I see that other parents let thier kids do whatever, because their parents were very strict with them, and becuase of the emotional trouble that caused, don't want to suppress their kids in the same way.

So, contrary to what some thers ahve said, I don't blame parents directly, but rather societal norms and schooling, that guides teh way to "bad" behavior, like drug and alcohol misuse.

I mean, think about it...school...you always give the right answer, and you'll succeed...and the answers are provided in lessons. But how many people go through school, get a degree, and then work in a different field? About 80%, if you can beleive that.

And if you fail at school...well, you're destined to be one of those drug addicts, or an alcoholic, or whatever...at least, that's what schooling and TV and such tells you...

In essence, society as a whole is no better than the Taliban raising kids as suicide bombers. But instead of suicide bombers, we raise theifs, murders, rapists, addicts, and other societal deviations.

Soceital norms need to change before anything else.

How are they going to compare Gaming to Cocaine before comparing Cocaine to Cigarette Smoking.

Cigarette smoking is bad to your health is highly addictive and can seriously effect your nervous system causing you to get angry and flip if you don't smoke in a while. This has been going on much longer than gaming and no one has attacked Cigarette smoking. BS! If your going to ban games or bitch about gaming then Cigarette smoking should come first!

Plus there is a huge difference between Physical Addiction and Psychological Addiction.
