HD5850 1Gb or GTX460 2Gb

Hello. I just bought yesterday a new PC config (see my rig specs) and i have some extra money put over and i was wondering if it's OK or NOT to swap my HIS HD5850 1Gb card with a Gainward GTX460 GoldenSample 2Gb card?! I'm a big fan of Gainward/Palit, but i'm not sure if the extra 1Gb will help anyway... BTW i'm NOT a game freak at all... i just like the way the card looks :wtf:

if you already have the 5850, IMO theres no sense swapping it for a card with roughly equal (actually slightly less) power with an extra gb of memory.... that extra 1gb accounts for very little added gaming performance in todays games.

I think what youve got is pretty slick already, but if you have voltage controll on your 5850 thru MSI AFterburner there is a lot more performance to be gained as you soar towards 1000mhz core.

I would like to do the SWAP just because i have a client (it's 2) for my 5850 and i have a realy good deal on that 460...

PS. I don't do gaming so mych... my GF does

considering your board doesnt support SLi I'd say keep th 5850 still since its the more powerful GPU, im not sure if you CF on your board but you sure cant SLi

As someone who started with nvidia then switched to ati I highly suggest sticking with the 5850. And if it's just the way you like how the card looks that isn't worth the money, since the card is in the case and much less visible anyways

If you already have a 5850, there's no reason to switch to to a 460, at least from a performance perspective. The 460 is a great card, but heavily OC'd it will get to 5850 level stock. Once you OC the 5850 the 460 won't be able to touch it.

THX for explaining me what is it with this cards because in the past year i spent most of my time working (foreign country) and i haven't have time to check out what kind of hardware was out on the market... So i will stick to my 5850 for the moment...

But why not wait for about 45 days and check one of the new ATI 6000 series cards

I'd consider doing the swap if you use Adobe products (with CUDA acceleration) or if you want to do other CUDA or PhysX stuff, even if just for the hell of it.

Dont swap the card for gaming performance. But you could swap it for other reasons, like 3D gaming. You GF would love a pair of nvideo 3d glasses next up. Until you have tried it, you cant imagine how much fun it is.

1. Sticking with the 5850 is the right choice, a well overclocked 5850 = 5870.
2. The extra 1 Gb on that GTX 460 helps only at 2560×1600.

Performance wise, stay with the 5850.

Budget wise, depends on how much your selling the 5850 for and if you need the cash.
