For some time I have been having a fan issue which it would just be very loud. Louder probably at slower speeds ironically. Tried taking it apart and running compressed air through it to no avail. I believe its the fan bearing itself.

Tried talking to ASUS and I can easily replace the fan, but they will not negotiate to send me one. I didnt want to be stuck with a dead computer for a week so to me thats not a choice. (they also wouldnt send me a speaker replacement for my blown N50VN laptop speaker, you're so accommodating ASUS!) They dont even have a way to BUY replacement parts.

I dont really trust ebay but regardless I couldnt find a 5870 fan replacement. The only other one is from zalman and has bad reviews + very expensive.

Any ideas? Im not happy with Asus right now.

I don't know why all those Newegg reviews on the Zalman VF3000A are bad unless people are trying to put the parts on nonreference cards that Zalman tells you not to in the manual. Like how you are not suppose to use the VRM heatsink with nonreference cards.

I've got two and am in the process of putting one on a 5870. I've already had the other on another one of my 5870s and really loved the performance.

Do you know if your Asus card is a reference card?

I have two gripes about the Zalman cooler:

1) They make you use their stupid Fan Mate 2 unless you want the fans running wide open all the time. For me with my tower on my desk next to me that is waaaay too loud.
2) No way to attach the back plate to keep the pcb straight. The cooler doesn't bend the pcb from its weight, I'd just prefer some way to keep it so I know it is exactly straight.

accelero S1 fits mine perfectly, just attach a small/slim fan over the VRM area. (or in my case, a 140mm monster lol)

Zalman cooler on reference 5870. Used AB to get 1.225v core. Fan speed is 9v coming from the MSI board.

To me the most impressive thing I see immediately is the vrm temps. How AC can't figure it out but Zalman can with their little aluminum sink is beyond me. My other two 5870s with the reference fan shroud are at 100C with that kind of amp pull through the vrm even with 100% fan speed. Ambient a little cold (about 19C) so you can get an idea.

This is in a closed Antec Two Hundred with:
2x 120mm 1000 rpm front fans
1x 120mm 1200 rpm rear exhaust
1x 140mm 1600 rpm top fan
No side fan, just left open

I forgot I turned off C&Q so the 955BE is full out at 1.4v on the cpu and cooled by a S1284 and 140mm Noctua.

Thanks for all the help. Looking at the Gelid currently. Will it take up 2 or 3 slots do you think?
