+1 I have the samething a PNY version black PCB $199.99 @ the egg.

But u will not get 1280mb of ram.... u will only get 1024mb when "unlocking" a gtx465, and u will still have the same 256bit Memory Bus Width, not the 320bit as the gtx470 has.
But ofc, u will still get more performance when unlocking a gtx465.

Actually, In this case, your going to be suprized.
There is actually 1280mb of ram on the boards of the pny cards, and msi gold frozr edition cards.
They got so lazy, and did it so wierd, They just decided to load a DUM bios on GTX 470's so they can have plenty of GTX 465's when they were released.
So they took plenty good GTX 470's, and spread the stocks, well MSI, and PNY did, so they loaded 465 bios's on these GTX 470's technically.

So when fully flashing these certain GTX 465 video cards, with a FULL/COMPLETE Bios of a GTX 470.

They literally were GTX 470's Full 1.2gb of ram, Full 320-bit interface, FULL 448 cuda cores.

In GPU-z they read as GTX 470's, and all these benchmarks showed FULL performance from a typical GTX 470, but for a GTX 465 price.

Amazing, Confusing, But Thats what they did.

PS: Some of those GTX 465's that had owners smart enough to fully flash there GTX 465's
also over clocked there modded cards.

GTX 465 price, Unlocked to a GTX 470, Then Over clocked. So your getting GTX 480 numbers, for GTX 465 price!!!!!

Some of those Modded GTX 465's virtually turned into GTX 470's Overclocked to 900 core.

Rediculas deal for the money

I thought the twin frozr golden edition is sold out, as what i understand was/is a limited edition, and the PNY cards was only a specific batch of the cards, but i can be wrong as i have not updated myself with more information regarding specific gtx465 cards -> fully 470 unlock.

I totally agree is ridiculusly good price for those cards.
But personally, i would cry my heart out if i bough a gtx465 and thought it could unlock to full potential gtx470, and it wouldnt..... :nutkick:

I have an MSI 470 running at stock. Man it gets hot. 88c in Crysis is normal. The fan ramps up to 70%. If i can hear a fan at all, then its too loud in my opinion.

then the 470 was the wrong choice of card for you. I suggest if you dont want to raise the fan sppeds, you look aftermarket. Something like the new Zalmans, the AC accelero plus will give you much better temps and way less noise.

Do the AC if you do as you can use the on board fan control.

Zalman got stupid and makes you use their Fan Mate 2.

Thats very odd, because i got a small tower case, very tight build with cables everywhere, my case is even made of plastic.... and my gtx470 does not go up over 81c, even after gaming constantly for a whole day with no pauses, and the fan speed never goes over 45% for me, and thats included heaven benchmark testing, 3dmark vantage, etc. Usually it sits right at 77c when gaming, and around 79-81c when benchmarking.
I Barely cant hear my 470 when its under load.

I got a reference cooler as u do, so, it must be something wrong with your build, either ur fans is pointed in the wrong way, or u dont cool the card at all... maybe hot-air-pockets if u checked for those?

That fan is cranking up on you. There is no way 45% fan hold the temps that low. My fan at 75% manual keeps the card at 42-44C idle and those loads. Plenty of airflow. Ambients of mine are 24C give or take 1C.

What kind of temps are people getting idle on after market coolers? With my gelid I'm at 29-31c depending on the day.

If you are having issues with high temps in idle , as i understand you have, its because you most likely have 2 monitors, remove one from the nvidia control panel and u will see 40-45c idle temps at 40% fan speed. Otherwise it will be 70-75c idle.

Just check your clock speeds in windows , is it at full clock speed , then you know the problem. The card is supposed to be clocked down to like 50mhz core clock in windows, and it will not do that with anything more then 1 monitor.

And if its not clocked down, then You have some problem, either with your card or your drivers. Its not supposed to be running 75% fan speed in idle.

40% is max in idle, and around 45, max 50% in load as ive seen it. Very quiet and to me, its quite cool for being a high performance card when i compare the gtx470 with the radeon 5870 which has pretty much the same temps.

He said its 75% manual...and have to agree with him, where did you get those readings?Cos I had a GTX 470 too and you will never convince me that yours is running 50% max load, unless you are playing tetris...
And also I dont believe that yours is at 81 degrees staying at 45% fan speed..

Right now I'm getting 25/21 core/pcb with 19 ambient with my AC Plus. With my Icy I got 1-2 higher on both.

After i read your post as u wrote, i decided to make some tests just to see what my fan speed actually is running on while gaming.

In sc2 it maxed out at 80c and 51% fan speed. And this is with real-time fan speed monitoring in-games.

WANNA KNOW? Why I am happy with the 470? Right yeah...

I just went from a Philips 22" LCD to a Phillips 32" LED screen (Dutch honor lol) , had to up the resolution, of course.

BF BC2 or ARMA 2 are just, no! more awe-full than before, and the card is just motoring away, same temps, same settings... seems as if more pixels makes her happy, 470 FTW!!!!!

Im not having any problems. I dont have two monitors, and my card clocks down properly. My fan is at 45% idle, I have it ramp up to 75% at 50C. Temps never break 80C unless its furmark. If my card was at 50% I would hit 90C+ easily. What I was inferring was that your temps are remarkable considering what everyone else gets.

Im under water now and those temps never break 46C. :rockout:

Got my self a PoV GTX 470 for a month ago, did'nt want to wait any more, and must say that the card perform wery well. But i hate stock coolers, and bought AC Accelero Extreme Plus, heavy cooler by the way. And Nvidia love to use alot of Locktight haha, had to use a dremmel to mod my screws to fit a flat screwdriver. But i was meeting more problems, stock cooler was off, and and on with the AC cooler, and the screw holes on the mounting plate did not fit with the GPU card haha. and then i saw that the orginal plate and the VR003 plate AC sent me was 100% like haha. After 3 days with sending emails to AC that they have sendt me wrong plate for the VR003 set, they regreted that they was wrong and so. And they wanted to send a new plate, but i did'nt wanted to wait, so i ordered a new VR003 set form dustin home. And the plate was right. On with the AC cooler, and turn up the pc. I went form 50-60C (stock cooler) to 30-35C Idle, and 80-90C (stock cooler) 100% load to 40-45C. This on Stock clocks. And after some OC my card never hits over 60-70C 100% load. And i have a 140mm fan blowing air @ GPU. And i think i'm gona get a GTX 470 to run in SLi. Great performance and it is gona be long time before i change the card.

Why bother getting another one with a 22" monitor?
I needed two to get the performance level I wanted in games like Oblivion that are GPU dependent. Two will master almost any game except the Crysis types and the DX 11 games that still run like shat. :banghead:
