Nice laptop?

Hey guys, I really want to buy a laptop to do some gaming on the move and just to move around the house. Games I'm probably going to be playing are Mw2, Cod4. Minecraft (lol), work etc and maybe some other games. I'm looking at this laptop : http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XC8862/hp-pavilion-dv6-3070tx-notebook

Seems good for some mild gaming? I'm sure the 5650 should handle those games at ease even at max settings.

Ew no! Save yourself some hassle and headaches and stay away from it. Find a laptop with similar hardware that's not made by HP.

And yes this is HP trolling, because they deserve every bit of it!

I have a Toshiba A665D-S6091 and I think it fares alright with games on medium settings at 1366*768. My AMD P940 quad core is crappy for TF2 though (but somewhat better than my previous C2D T8100). My laptop scores about 6100 points stock in 3DMark '06 (my 5650 is the lowest clocked 450/800MHz version). TF2 maxed out with 4xAA/16xAF uses 90% of the GPU. HL2:EP2 struggles a bit for some reason. Monday Night Combat is choppy but bearable at medium-high settings.

So, I'll look around for another brand with similar specs, If it can't be found HP it is XD

I was looking for a laptop the past week from etailers near NSW and in Sydney, the best one that can be locally obtained for under 1400 AUD is the DV7, the only cons I could come up with was the touch pad which i doubt anyone uses anyway and then the battery life. Mainly because it is also one of the few laptops that support 2x Hard Drives.


@MSI GX740 that is an awesome deal but I think it is out of stock dude, the next available are like over 1500AUD .... I saw an asus model with a GTS 540M somewhere and i5 processor for 1450, I would have linked you if I could find it

5470M, 310M, 6370M <--- you should avoid these they don't do much for gaming, the 5650 is much faster than all of them.

i got the dv6-3250us, its pretty similar, REALLY nice laptop, metal, the webcam is amazing you can see it in the dark well, the mics are uhh, well people say they can hear them better than my sennheiser mic yay, the clickpad is huge, good if you are used to them the screen is extremely bright and clear, definately happy with it.

which cpu does it have btw? mine has the 480M

EDIT: oh yeah, one of the main reasons i got it instead of something else, was that it was one of the best ones i could find with the "clickpad?" in the middle, ugh i dont think i could have one with a touchpad off to the left that would drive me nuts, oh and fair warning that thing is HUGE, its like as big as a large smartphone.

I had a Toshiba for years and it worked like a dream i would recommend them.
And they are usally brillant bang for buck

I had the 3030TX model and it was a great laptop, this seems to be better in a few ways.

having worked at dicksmith too (where I bought mine from) if you get a laptop there get them to throw in extras, $999 is a price they can move on but I bet if you pay $999 they can throw in a case and mouse or something along those lines.

I consider that you might wait for AMD quad core Llano laptops, since it has 480 strem processors > HD 5650. The price should be cheaper too I think.

I personally own a Sager NP8690 and I have had it for about 6 months.

The thing is a freaking tank and plays everything I want on it for the most part with max settings.

Sager has newer models out and after doing tons of research myself, I finally decided on the Sager.

I used XoticPC to purchase mine. They have very very good customer service and their user forum is excellent source of help.

I spoke with Joseph Lee during my purchase and research process.

He is a very knowledgeable and nice man. I know if you look around their forums there have been many people that have done international orders and have not had any issues.

The company is based out of Lincoln, NE here in the US and they do require all the equipment to be shipped to them for repair.

As noted by Frick, all international orders have to be shipped to and from at your own cost.

I would contact Joseph as he may be able to help you out with that. They seem to be pretty flexible. Can't guarantee anything but it is worth a try.
