Why did you bother posting? to tell the OP he is full of shit?

He mentioned it is 1st gen SSD ie not very fast transfer speeds, yes latency is still next to nothing but on some of the older SSD's the transfer speeds are as low in some cases as 50-60Mb/s and very rarely above 100Mb/s compared to modern HDD's at 110Mb/s+ and it's not all about latency.

As for the OP take your pick from OCZ, Kingston and Corsair for good value fast SSD's

i did a format but still the results are awful.

i installed my agility EX-3 yesterday and i am amazed by the performance!

Try doing a secure erase not a format of the solid drive. IT might bring back performance.

I use gparted but HDDerase might work for you also.
