Should the GN No Thanks button come to TPU?

I would like to cancel my vote of yes and move it to no because I have just sat through 3 pages of this and Its very clear that we DO NOT need this to happen;.

The way I use the Thanks button is to actually thank someone for a useful post not to agree with them. If I agree with a post and think I have something to add to the conversation I will post.

Man. There are certainly some other forums that have "Thanks" or "Likes" that I wish had a "No Thanks" button too (mainly for all the politically-related negativity and hate) but don't think such is really needed at TPU. Also invites abuse and trolling as has been pointed out.

And you can use the no thanks button to tell people their post is useless. It's the same thing. In fact it shares 100% of the source code right now. Doesn't change the fact that it won't suit TPU though. People can't handle a no thanks button, vote 3 on an ugly case in the case gallery for instance, you'll probably be guilty of forcing someone to commit suicide.

I think a "lol" button would be better. That way we can show our appreciation for a funny post without using the thanks button.

Someone had an idea a little while back where they suggested rating posts within threads by how many thanks they've got (so that the most useful posts are easy to find, which would be useful for new members trying to find the answer to a problem in a 20-page thread). I really like the idea but it won't work with the amount of thanks that a funny post gets. But if we can separate the "lol"'s from the "thanks" then it might work.

That's a good idea, but maybe better suited in the GN section. A tech site with an LOL button... I'd stay away from.. hehehe Or at least not take as serious as the others. Seeing the increase in troll/irrelevant posts I think it would be a great idea.
Especially if it hid posts that had more then 5~6 dislikes.

We already have a thread rating system, it's just no one still uses it

Also with the one in place it offers stars in the section next to the thread. They don't get hidden, but let's just say a 1 star thread is either a poop topic or has been trolled.

I seem to remember a certain Australian kid here a couple years ago, wasn't liked by many, and even his informative posts were trolled to one star levels. Seems no matter what we add, its always the bad apples who destroy its real usage for everyone....thread tags ....anyone remember that fiasco?

To me.. The "no thanks" button wouldn't work... Because, even if you get to the factor of 5-6 votes of "no thanks" to a post.. It'll probably be a$$es trying to be "funny" because they want to troll.. Oh, I hate your post... dislike.. not because it wasn't informative, but just because they didn't like the view of that person.. Or, people didn't like the view of it..

Since TPU isn't ran buy Mods that get paid.. I say it's not worth the hassle.. Now, if it was ran like that, then.. Mod to enforce just that.. abusing the "no thanks" will get you points or banned.. But, that's something that's not going to happen.

Great Thought Qubit, but it's not going to help TPU... not with the amount of trollin'/flame baiting we have right now

Interestingly, I see that the only mod that has the balls to do this is Easy Rhino - congrats man. :respect:
