Screwed Codecs, NO VIDEO

OK, so i could watch movies with sound and video, but all of a sudden the video would not work. so im like wtf, ive been using aces mega codec pack. so i uninstalled it nd reinstalled, and no help. so i installed cp codec pack, same, and ive used k-lites codec pack, with no help. ive used gspot to try and figure out the prob but it says it should run but it doesnt. i also used divx and the xvid codec with no luck. plz help me. all movie file types will not work!

installing multiple codec packs is NOT reccomended unless you know what your doing an dont install the same codec multiple times, they can mess your system up, i would reccomend uninstalling them and just getting your basic ones ie: divx, mpeg2, xvid etc also try using vlc player, it seems to play most movies flawlessly imo :rockout:

Is this with an older version on Media Player? I find a lot of my movies won't play with media player until I update it to the newer version.

OK i dont have multiple coecs installed(i already knew u shouldnt) the weird thing is u no how vlc doesnt use codecs, well i cant get any video from vlc either, so should i try dl-ing individual codecs? it was working b4 with aces mega codec pack
this problem actually occurred when i either updated or installed DIVX, so deleted it but it is still screwy

Run a "search" for codecs. Delete all found, defrag HDD, and start over, with fresh new download of Codec's, Also may want to try re-instaling Mobo drivers from Asus.

VLC... the guys here turned me onto it, & it comes w/ its own codecs built in, & I have YET to see it not play any videos for me!

I ALREADY HAVE USED VLC, for the past year. if u read my other posts i also say that even VLC doesnt have any video either, which is weird. plus i like using realplayer way more than VLC

Sounds like your overlay settings were screwed up. Go into your video driver's control panel and look for the color controls. Tell them NOT to let the application decide. If that still doesn't work, try reinstalling your video drivers. Sometimes the overlay controls get screwed up by a video player, setting your gamma, or contrast, or brightness all the way down.

I was just trying to help after skimming is all & ONLY your first post!

(I did not admittedly, read the others. AshenSugar's keeping me "tied up" in another thread & others last nite did too... my bad, skimming lol!)

Imo, on a guess? Codecs are largely 'maps' of various multimedia file type file headers, & how to proceed thru them for various sound files for programs & drivers to use!

All so sound processors & their drivers can 'interpret' them, but I could be wrong here...

& how they install?

Man, I really SHOULD learn it... to help folks out on this level too, & better than just suggesting an alternate program! apk

OMFG! Finally! THANK YOU WILE E! that site u gave me had a troubleshoot page and i fixed it reading through that! the stupid overlay had problems, and it never had anything to do with codecs! THANK YOU!
