Couple of ways, point & click GUI easy too:

1.) USING A TOOL NATIVE TO THE OS (not on XP Home models though) - Use gpedit.msc (run it from Start Button -> RUN command) & follow this path thru its treelist node items as follows:

Left-Hand-Side Tree items: Local Computer Policy -> User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Desktop

Right-Hand-Side listed items: Remove Recycle Bin from Desktop (apply this, though it seems contradictory to do)...

REBOOT... then, upon reentry into Windows, go thru the SAME PROCESS ABOVE (lol, rinse, lather, repeat) & then, this time? Reverse the setting to SHOW THE RECYCLE BIN!

(This SHOULD theoretically @ least, restore it)

OR

2.) USING A "3rd PARTY TOOL" (in this case, not really 3rd party but a Microsoft freebie) - Microsoft's FREE "powertoy" TweakUI - it has a TON of options for customizing your desktop & more, & most likely (iirc), it has options for hiding/showing the RECYCLE BIN!

:)

* There is also tools like FreshDevice's FRESHUI, or X-Setup, that offer functionality that expands largely on tools like TweakUI, & will probably offer settings tweaks for this also that you can apply or reverse, to undo your mishap!

P.S.=> Good luck... apk

i think he deleted the recycle bin in vista, i did it too once lol.
It can be restored by going to "personalize" by right clicking on desktop, then on left side, "change desktop icons" and checking recycle bin from it. quite easy for vista ;)
on xp deleting it, can be a lil tough though...

Interesting... never done that myself, & Windows Server 2003 (OS I currently use) does not have that option on the menu of the popup menu that appears @ least (perhaps in the PROPERTIES dialog is what you meant?)

Another "odd way" to POSSIBLY get this back, would be to run Explorer.exe, & be on MY COMPUTER @ the top in the left-hand side panel (treelist of drives/directories-folders & files etc.) & SEE IF RECYCLE BIN IS IN THE LOWER END OF THAT LIST HERE!

Then, left click on it, drag it to your desktop, & do "create shortcut here" & that might cut it as well, but kind of HOKEY, lol, but SHOULD work!

yes, i meant the properties, vista has the option to remove all desktop os related icons like recycle bin etc. Quite nifty, like on a huge monitor (which i'll never get :(), will benifit a lot.
An hd wallpaper equipped desktop, AWESOME. just like jadawin's desktop from the desktops thread- http://www.hardwarewahnsinn.de/benchmarks/desktop.jpg .

Cool, I figured you did... lol, the ONLY problem now is, we can't find out if this worked for tony or not... apparently, if you look? He is banned!

:(

* Oh well...

Anyhow - we both gave him "8 roads to China" basically, via diff. methods for this (4 from me, 1 from you) & I think a number of them will work for he!
