Out of curiosity what is the typical usage of both cards when in crossfire?

One card on mine stays pretty loaded down while the other jumps around between its standard 850mhz clock and the 1100mhz overclock. This was during Tomb Raider gameplay I haven't really tested any other games to see if this is the same. Is the second card just not getting used?

Yep, normal for when Crossfire isn't working properly, should see like 99% on one, and 98% on the other, more often than not, when CFX works right.

I really hope they get it sorted by Xmas. I want to get another 7870 or a 7950 to xfire with my current card.

Yeah what Dave said.

Also some games make your second/third card just idle for no apparent reasons.

The culprit could possibly be the Phenom II the two cards are hooked up with.

good point, could be CPU limitations. But I'm pretty sure Crossfire isn't working right in TombRaider with some drivers, only maybe the most recent ones will support it?

I was gonna check myself, have the game ,and cards, but only had one card installed, and I don't have matched Crossfire right now; still waiting for my DCUII 7970 to be returned.

Why Radeon Pro? Current drivers offer that ability anyway, no need to install other stuff.

you will need CCC to do it. Isnt that "Other stuff"?

Be that as it may, there is some debate weather the profiles are functioning correctly..

If you have a radeon, and you arent using radoen pro, you are robbing yourself of performance and visual quality

Adding additional software into a system when trying to trouble-shoot problems is not the correct approach. You want to LIMIT variables, not increase them.

95% of AMD users have CCC installed, if not more.

see above

IMHO, every AMD user should be using radeon pro. Period.

My advice to OP stands - Try radeon pro, and switch to AFR.

as a side note, using CCC profiles disables built in caps for said game. Radeon pro does not. It adds features on top of the cap.

meh. Crossfire has issues in general, I'd simply wait for their "fixed" driver. Screwing with 3rd party software to get a "feature" from AMD working is stupid. AMD's software should work properly. And until users stop using 3rd party solutions, and keep complaining to AMD so that they fix issues properly, things like this will never get the attention they need. AMD should fix this problem, not Radeon Pro.

AMD advertises Crossfire as a working feature..it should work.

Keep in mind, I didn't make my comments based on your advice alone..it's decent advice, but at the same time, I feel it does more damage than good. and Cdawall here is astute enough to understand what I mean. He's one of the more "up-to-date" AMD users we have here on TPU.

Normally i would agree with you.

However i view RP as an extention of CCC (as does the developer BTW, and AMD is actually helping him)

and there are a great number of xfire users who have fixed a host of issues by using it. DVC, and DVS in particular.

Unfortunately, it doesn't fix any issues with my configurations. Radeon Pro is just bloat, for me. CCC is too, don't get me wrong, but I want CCC to work, blah, blah, blah....

Yet I love Windows8. :p

I've been using multi-GPU since it was commercially available, and problems like this have always existed. This is a pretty basic issue, I think, since I know that TR didn't support Crossfire at launch. I actually stopped playing the game because of it, since I want to play in Eyefinity.

I'm pretty sure that's what cdawall is seeing here, but erocker brought up a very valid point too.

I'll admit it, it would drive me crazy. Everytime I see a system tray bursting at the seams, I get an angry feeling in the pit of my stomach. lol.

I will know soon enough then. If that's all it is hopefully that fx9370 will fix it. Right now I'm just trying to get the bugs worked out so when I'm home eyefinity works right.

I will try some other games that have known working profiles.

good point, could be CPU limitations. But I'm pretty sure Crossfire isn't working right in TombRaider with some drivers, only maybe the most recent ones will support it?

I am running the latest regular driver (13.4) so unless its a beta that works idk. I will try setting it to afr in ccc.

I still haven't swapped to AFR, however it might just be the game not maxing out the cards.

It peaks to 100%, but for the most part it appears to be running at 60% or so on both cards.
