Hi folks! Been out of the loop for some time and now I need some decent advice!
For my current rig, see my specs! While my rig has been a good servant for the last 6 or 7 years (or more), its time to thrash it since I have a couple of issues :
1. Won't shut down whatever I do but nevermind, its on 24/7.
2. After years of OC'ing my Ram recently stopped being recognized by the board. Prices are too hot for DDR2, ain't worth buying it especially on a board that has issue #1, #3.
3. For those who might remember me, ant colonies killed my sound card outputs!
4. Stopped gaming so sold on my 9800GT since ages (I now have a 8600GT just because my board doesn't have integrated GPU)
5. Gave my stock CPU fan to a pal, so I'm stuck with the Xigmatek which I'm tired of, plus it no longer shines like it did!
So after reading all that, you'll understand that dumping is best. I guess I could just keep the damned CPU/fan and get a cheap board with DDR3 but I honestly don't want to and I've already planned on donating the cpu to a poor kid. Plus I gather newer cpu's won't be such a power drain.
I only need 3 components :
CPU : had a look at Intel's G2010
Ram : DDR3 already got 4gbs 1333 Kingston Value Ram
Board : I'm stuck. Have eyes on the MSI B75MA-E33 since I might as well get USB 3.0/Sata III and its dirt cheap as long as I have a good working one! Any feedback? Alternatives that I can get cheap @ wholesale prices are : Asus P8H61M-LX, MSI H61M-P32.
I plan to use this pc only for a year or so, then I'll most likely give it to my lil brother. Its just a stop gap measure till I build myself a new gaming rig but that is for another topic much later on! Wanted to go AMD but sadly, the wholesaler can't get me these boards/chips.
I know this ain't gonna appeal or break bench scores here but honestly that's all I can get and need right now. Basic internet, some very light editing here and there, watching videos (I guess that's where the 8600GT might help or are these IGP's able to do it like men now?) some music. So? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks for your time!
