Catalyst 14.9 WHQL released.

Just saw a thread made by an AMD rep on Tom's today indicating Cat 14.9 has been released for Windows and Linux.

As has been the usual for some time now, they only show improvements for the new R series, Crossfire, and an APU.

It's like the rest of us don't exist.

I don't know, maybe you can ask the AMD rep over at Tom's in the thread he made about this driver update on the Graphics forum.

I often don't even bother DLing let alone installing new AMD drivers anymore. They only seem to care about R9, APUs, and Crossfire.

The newest GPU architectures and multi-GPU will always get the most software updates since they have the most bugs that can be fixed. All the major bugs and easy performance fixes for the old architectures have already been released, so any further development on old cards is a large cost for little gain.

I would actually be very surprised to see any driver contain performance updates for old GPUs. About the only things old GPUs ever get with new drivers are compatibility fixes for the newest hardware and software, which doesn't mean much if you haven't changed anything on your system since the last driver update.

They don't release WHQL drivers on a monthly schedule anymore. 14 is for 2014 and 9 is for September.

I'm also hating this driver. It bluescreens during the first install, I try again and it seems fine except the HD audio fails (No biggie). But when it's all done I get a window like CCC.exe is no good and none of my games work anymore. I have to keep reverting my system to before I installed this. I am using a crossfire setup and only one monitor. Here is my DxDiag (some of it)

This is what I expected to hear, which is why I see no reason to install them. Why use them if it's no better? You're only risking it being worse.

I used to always use the latest ones, barring problems, because they force feed the importance of using them as if catastrophe will happen if you don't. At the end of the day it just feels like more corporate responses for not having delved deeper into the real problems though.

If there's a new WHQL that supports my card. I install it like I always have. In the 12 hours that I've had these installed, I really haven't had a chance to test much.
