Isn't the GT just a pro running at a slower clock speed?If that is true than there is not difference in the cards other than 1mhz core clock.

Now here is the other part what video card would be better
X1950pro 256mb (581/1400)
x1950GT 256mb (580/1400)
7900GS 256mb (560/900(1800))
i have the 7900GS already and i was wanting to know if i should keep the 7900GS or get a x1950GT or pro? I am keeping XP so no need for DX10 when i do go DX10 i am going to get a new mobo but for now i am keeping XP.

I have seen benchmarks were the 8600s get pwned by the 7900GS and i have also heard that the 2600xt suck at gaming. I don't want to be taking a loss in DX9.

If you're not interersted in DX10 just stick with DX9 cards. Your video card is plenty fast enough, and I can't see spending that amount of money on a new video card for ~2 fps.

Lol the whole point in SLi is to buy one, add a second when you can afford it, if you can afford the both from the offset then just get a GTX/Ultra etc etc.

In DX9 games the 7900GS is a little faster in real world gaming than the 8600GT/GTS but slower in synthetic benches which of course is less important unless you are a bench junkie, but the 8600GTS will run most DX9 games really well at most sensible resolutions/detail settings, bottom line as I said before, the 7900GTS aint gonna get no FPS in DX10

No they don't. 2600XT's are vastly underpowered. Benchmarks they're fine. But real frames they're not good.

Depends on the game and resolution. But the point he was trying to make is, if you buy 2 GTS straight off, you have no easy upgrade path after that. You'll have to completely replace both cards to upgrade. If you buy the GTX, you can still add another GTX down the road to increase your performance, if the need arises.

Yes they are, I would recommend going sli if you already had one but IMO a single card solution is always best if starting from scratch but to get anything like eithers potential your CPU/system will need to be upgraded as well, in a single card solution for example, with your current CPU and it's current speed, if you had an 8800GTX in there, you would probably only be getting a 8800GTS's worth of performance out of it because at 2.5Gig a GTX is going to be severly bottlenecked....so hey why not just get the GTS instead......if you see what I mean.

Keep my 7900GS and buy a new HSF and volt mod it and overclock higher.After i get the money Get an Asus AM2 maybe AM3 or AM2+ what ever is out than and get 1 8800GTX (or what ever is out) and get Windows vista?Also get one of the new AMD CPUs
so i would mostly be starting over than.I would just be using the same case and PSU if i went 1 GTS.

X1950GT stock is 500MHz GPU, 600MHz memory although they can easily be overclocked to Pro speeds or above.

Although faster a X1950GT/Pro is not really worth the upgrade over a 7900GS/GT, you might be better off waiting until 2nd generation DX10 cards are available, if not then a X1950XT would be a far more worthwhile upgrade.

The mods linked are the ones i am thinking about trying when i get better cooling. Worst thing that can happen is i end up with a dead card than i will have a reason to go 8800GTS.

Bottom line is basically it's not really an upgrade to go 1950GT or pro, they are faster cards at stock no doubt but the 7900GS overclocks much better generally and if you overclock when both cards are at max there is very little difference, in fact in many benches the 7900GS will beat it, overall I would say if you were upgrading to one of these from say a 1600 or 7600 then yes go for the 1950Pro but overclocked there is so little in it you just cant justify the expense IMO.

I still think you are better investing now in a 320MB 8800GTS, there are good deals out there to be found then when you have the cash and the inclination in the future you can always go SLi, if you have doubts about SLi you can always fork the extra and get a 640MB GTS or even a GTX if you are feeling extravigent but as I said earlier.....IMO a GTX would only really be justified expense with a rig upgrade to get the best out of it.
