Well the install went great. Booted and loaded drivers no problems. Just had to make sure all the ati drivers/tools where uninstalled before installing the new card.

What a difference! 3dMark05 proxicon went from 70fps to 120+fps. Unfortunately I didnt have it hooked to the internet so I didnt get my score. But I know its a massive boost from the X1900xtx.

Next step is to see how far I can push it on air, then add it to my water loop and apply heatsinks on all the ram and voltage regs. Using a Swiftech MCW60 and it looks like it will fit perfectly. I will post screen shots of my max air and max water from 3d05,06.

Ohhh I get to update my sig and specs! :rockout:

The fan is not anywhere near as loud as the x1900xtx's but that is a notoriously loud fan. For me the fan will be removed very shortly anyways, but for people interested it is a pretty nice fan setup and doesn't sound like a jet engine.

Thanks, that Q6600 is just an awesome chip. I hope this 8800 can do as well.

COD4 I don't have. But Crysis,Oblivion,NFS:pro Street and Hell Gate I can do for sure.
In crysis with the x1900 I was getting around 35Fps with 2x AA and pretty much all medium details @1280x1024.

I ended up pushing the card to 820Mhz on the stock cooler, from the factory OC of 730Mhz, not bad at all. The Ram was able to hit 2215Mhz from stock of 1944Mhz. Since I did this on my workbench I didnt have net access to submit scores. But it did make it through 3 consecutive runs of 3dmark05 and 06, and I was able to play Crysis at 1600x1200 2x AA and all High details, FRAPS showed I averaged around 33+FPS (Im on XP Pro, so not DX10). As much as I wanted to show what this card would do on air I also want to play my games on it much more. So I just removed the stock cooling and added ramsinks and my waterblock. I will be overclocking it tonight. So once I get home I will hook to the net and keep the clocks I got on air and post those results...Then I will see how much more I can get out of it on water, Im expecting to hit 850+, hopefully the ramsinks and the 120mm fan blowing on the card will allow me to push the ram even further. It did have more head room but temps were on the rise (Pushing 70c) and I dont think I would run it 24/7 at those clocks on the stock cooler. At those temps I gotta say the fan was loud IMO, but still not x1900xtx or even x1950xtx loud.

Sa-weeeet. Your persauding me to get the 8800GTS, since i too would be going up from my 2 year old X1900XT. If the difference is as great as you say it is (On stock-speeds) i may have to take the plunge. Would you recommend it, judging by my system?

I would recommend a GTS for your system. Basically the GTS added 10,000 points in 3dmark05 and 7000 in 3dmark06 from my x1900xtx.

Crysis is running @ 1600x1200 and all high details. Using FRAPS my FPS never drops below 35 (standing on a hill in the forest overlooking valley) and will peak around 45 (Like looking at the ground and running. Or indoors.)

I'm scoring 6000 3D Mark06 points at the moment with my current setup. You think the GTS will really make that kinda difference?

It will be a massive boost for you. You probably wont be hitting 17K but I can see you getting very close to 15,000

You know with your nice cpu cooler you can certainly push the e6600 a lot higher then stock. Easy 2.8-3.0ghz.

Thanks, i expect i will when i get the time. I know nothing about CPU overclocking, and i know it encompasses messing with ram timings too (Which i also know nothing about) so i'll need to look into it more sometime. I don't think its as straight-forward as GPU overclocking, right?

I am currently stepping up one of my 8800gts 320mb cards from evga to get the new 8800gts 512mb.Your post gives me alot of hope for improvement in my benchmarks and gaming.I'm currently running my e6600 at 3.7 on air.I've posted windows on air at 4.0,but it wasn't stable of course. Can't wait for intels wolfdales to hit the streets! i'm currently getting around 16,900 in 3dmark06 so i'm hoping to get higher with this one new card then what i've been getting with my 2 old 8800 gts 320mb sli config!I'll be installing a liquid loop in my rig soon also, that combined with a spanking new wolfdale pushing well over 4ghz should keep me busy until nehalem hits. Also there's lots of overclocking guides here on this site and all over the net...google is your friend Zen!Just take it nice and slow and never be afraid to ask the so-called "stupid" questions and you'll be just fine.

Sounds very sweet! Can you post your best 3d06 results in Alcpone's 3dMark06 thread please? It's located under General Software. Stepping up from an 8800GTS 320 to a (G92) GTS is sooo the way to go!

You must have been talking to Huxley2k7 cause I am having no issues with overclocking anything of mine. :) I even overclocked my microwave...LOL

I am not sure if 2 8800gts 320's in SLI are going to be that much slower then 1 GTS G92. It will remove a lot of heat and power draw from your system overall.

I have been playing crysis most of this weekend and a little NFS/Prostreet. From what I have found my GPU doesnt want to go past 830, although if I unlink the shaders I can push them further then if they were linked. The ram seems to stop at 1077Mhz and after about 2 hours of crysis it starts to artifact, But I know the reason. I had to use those cheap zalman heatsinks. I just ordered 2 packs of the swiftech copper ramsinks so with those I hope I can get the ram stable at 1080 - 1100.

Until there is a good volt mod, or bios tweek out I think my core is pretty much oc'd as far as it will go. 830Mhz GPU, 2200Mhz Shaders, 1070Mhz RAM. Still need to run some benchmarks at these levels, although I figure if it can play 3-4 hours of crysis at these levels going through 3dmarks should be easy.

I got this link via a buddy at my forum. (Dutch)

This is a good Clock!! I also have a 8800 GTS (G92) from Asus (650/970)

Did u use a V-mod of a bios edit?

I use ati-tool with FW 169.21 (XP). I noticed that ati-tool ups my shaders as wel so i'm using Asus Smart dokter to lower my shaders (765/1055 is my max for now). And try to contiue my GPU clock. But if you used a V-mod or some kind i don;t have to try and get this far.

Tank you...

Cheers

EDIT: Your screen shows u use Rivatuner right? I tried to use this tool but dous not recognise my driver version. Witch version of driver and rivatuner do u use?

What link?

Nope, no vmod. Im hoping there is one out, or already being worked on. Because this chip wants to go faster I can tell, just needs more juice to get there. Temps aren't a problem at all.

Using version 2.06 with the .cfg file edited.

Using version 2.06 with the .cfg file edited.

Do u have a link of this edit?

GPU won't go any farther than 770. :shadedshu
Shaders won't go above 1900 :ohwell:
MOM stops at 1055. :wtf:

The link i'm talkin about is between the Core speeds and the shader speeds. But i will go and search fot the 2.06 .cfg file tweak and try rivatuner. But if u could provide a link i'd be very happy.

I have BIOS modded mine to the full 1.1V max from the cards stock 1.05V, I would guess as you are hitting 820mhz then your factory overclocked card already had the 1.1V in any case. One thing to watch for (and I found out also, at firast I got to 805Mhz, cant get past 775 now ) is that you might find that within a few days your max overclock drops a fair bit, it seems pretty commom and people are saying that it's caused by leakeage from the regulators.....have a google.

There are already Voltmods out there for the 8800GT, I have some links and pics....... if you want them let me know, bare in mind that if you go over 1.3V on these cards you get OVP shutdown so some people are suggesting not going above 1.275V because of load spikes. Temps are not really an issue with any decent aftermarket cooling, I have the Artic Cooling Accelro S1 and at max overclock I idle at 32C and hit 44C at max load :D

I also have a MSI Overclocked 8800GTS arriving today.....I wanna see what that baby can do as well!

Zen, what config file edit for Rivatuner?

Tatty, are you saying the BIOS mod for the GT will work for the GTS? Im pretty sure all GTS's are 1.1volts. I dunno, been rock solid at 826Mhz.

The link for the RivaTuner 2.06 -> this is a thread where it describes how to do the .cfg edit.
