Is it better to run a higher FSB with a lower Multiplier or a lower FSB and a higher Multiplier ?
I've tried both on this machine and it seems to run about the same.
Any help would be great, thanks

isnt one linked to the RAM? if you OC this the you can OC your RAM to so depending if you wanted to do that or the RAM can handle it then its up to you.

If i am incorrect please correct me.

I think if your FSB and RAM are 1:1 you can get a better OC but im not sure (dont try this yet!)

in generalized theory - raising the FSB increases the overall performance of the system as a whole; while the multi only affects the CPU.

although, once you start hitting a very high BUS speed, you'll need to back the multi down a bit to help keep everything stable. If you want to keep the system itself at a certain speed, but only increase the CPU, you raise the multi

it really all depends on your hardware as a whole, and what each piece is capable of handling.

Using an unlocked processor for example, you just want to find your "sweet spot". If your going for benchmarking scores, It's best to have everything as pumped up and stable as possible. So to answer your question, it's best to have the highest FSB possible. Having an unlocked multi makes CPU OC'ing easier. But let's say you have a 3.0ghz processor with a x10 multi. Just looking strictly at the FSB and the CPU, you can raise your fsb but may hit a wall with your processor, while there's plenty of room left to oc your fsb. Lower the CPU multi a notch, and continue to raise the FSB back to the CPU limit. Try again, and see how far it goes.

* Keep in mind that I didn't explain memory timings, dividers, HT link width, or anything else.

Raised the FSB to 460 and lowered the multi to 7 and it failed to boot so I tried again and it booted but after a while it restarted so I just went back to FSB at 380 and multi at 9x so I'm back running at 3420mhz
I'm still gonna lower the multi and raise FSB and see if it's stable and clocks better with good temps

All this talk of multi's and fsb makes me want to order things i can't afford yet. It is mind-numbingly painful to look at my new toys and not play with them...

agreed!

don't forget, either, that when you raise the system BUS, it also affects the speed at which your MEM runs at. If your MEM speed exceeds what it's rated at, you might need to raise the MEM voltage, or loosen up timings, too.
