Storage 320GB

Well I have some dell promotional gift cards to use, since I didn't know that you can't combine them since I was planning to buy a PS3.

1x $150 promotional gift card
2x $100 promotional gift card
1x $75 recession coupon
2x $25 coupon
(ALL FOR DELL)

I'll most likely use a $100 gift,$25 coupon, and whatever is leftover I will pay with my own money. (Saved up $190-- hehe :D) I'm looking to play COD4 on a 1680x1050 resolution monitor (Samsung 22" 220wm) and wanted to ask for ya'lls input in what to get. Here are some videocards that I am looking over:

$259.99 ($229.99 AR)-Evga 8800 GT Superclocked 512 MB
$232- Evga 9600 GT Superclocked 512 MB
*theres the hd 3850 and hd 3870 also but its even more overpriced at dell

So I'm debating over those two videocards. I know both can max out COD4 @ 1680x1050 and that the 8800gt will most likely last longer because of the higher stream processors but I'm also wondering if I should get like a 8600gt/8600gts instead and step to either of those cards later since they are cheaper elsewhere from dell. So should I go with either of the 8800gt/9600gt cards or should I go with 8600gt/gts and step up later?

The 8800GT is better than the 9600GT.

The 8600GT/GTS gives like a quarter/third (respectively) of the performance of the 8800GT, or half the performance of the 9600GT.

I owned an 8600GTS and now an 8800GT. The gameplay difference is phenomenal. To explain it in 3Dmark06 I got 5K with the 8600GTS, and 12K with the 8800GT.

I'd get the 8800GT if I were you. If you had the option for the 8800GTS 512MB I'd choose that one over the 8800GT.

Oh sorry, I need to read more. And I think ati's 4000 series should be here before too long, although I don't know about the next 90 days. I don't think there is gonna be a 9800gts either, just the gtx, I could be wrong though. If there is I suspect nvidia might wait until ati's next batch to release it.

9800GT, supposidly due on shelves sometime in May, it again will be G92 and effectively a replacement for the 8800GT with similar specs but faster clocks including shaders but keeping the 112SP's, it is guestimated to be a little faster than the current 8800GT, perhaps around current G92 GTS performance with a price somewhere between the existing 8800GT and GTS, this should signal the EOL for the 8800GT first followed by the 8800GTS.

As for now, go with the 8800GT IMO.

Thanks. I surely will go with the 8800gt. its going be such a huge performance increase from my current card (hd2400 pro 128mb) :D I wished Dell would sell the video cards at the same prices other retailers are such as clubit, newegg, but, etc. oh well with the gift card and coupon im using I'll only have to pay $135 and hopefully get the $30 rebate. :D

$40 difference... All I really want is to game COD4 at max right now and if I need something more gpu hungry I can step up within 90days which i might do if prices go down.. ill think it over though

its not the good x38. its dell modified x38 where only 1 pci x16 slot card. useless if u ask me except the pci 2.0 but thats it.

Go for the 8800GT then, then use the step-up if you want something more demanding.
