Ok I spent ages trying to get the nvidia client to work for fah and I got it working on beta drivers, 174.55 and it does 1000-2000 iter/sec but it makes and unbearable squeeking noise: that comes from the gpu itself and sometimes crashes :( I tried 175.19 and it works nice and stable etc but does 60 iter/sec. Anyone got a good balance between performance and stability :toast:

im thinking that the squeky sound might be coming from the fan as the load on the gpu probably increases the gpu temperature, thus triggering the fan to start, you might want to try oiling the fan with wd 40 if that's the case.

its passively cooled and it doens't happen during stress tests and gaming but it does when ati tool is on under certain drivers.

oh, well if the sound is coming from the card itself.. then that might be a problem, because you shouldn't be getting any sound from anything besides the fan.. perhaps its a cap ready to blow up or something? lol wild guess...

but do you get the sound while gaming or benchmarking?

Nope just folding at home on 174.55. Doesn't at all on 175.19

ive had my 8800GT make that squeal before, and i am assured by TPU vets that its nothing to be concerned about.

it only does it under certain conditions, but it should be fine, unless it really is unbearable, i have returned a 9600GT before as the squeal was really beyond what i would call safe, the card did sound like it was gunna blow...

lol, it was Largon that told me its all good, and i take his word on those matters, however if it is excessive then RMA it for piece of mind.

Largon said certain high end cards have been doing it for years now.....

Ok the modded 177.39 drivers must have a stfu command because it isn't making a noise :D cheers guys and pancho it took my bank card and went crazy on newegg :(:laugh:

No we have a baby Chrome 440 on the way :eek: Oh and when I increase the shader clocks now it really starts screaming again :twitch: just keep it at stock :rockout: and now its doing 3000 iter/sec

very nice dude. i find my GPU folding is quite sensititve to shader clocks also, my stock is 1688, gaming OC is 2000, but folding likes 1890....
