Meh, we have differing opinions. I respect them..but if I was Nvidia, I'd go with my route. Anyway that was a good arguement:laugh:

more performance = more energy use.

sorry but this statement is utter BS and i hope for your sake you never make computer components

example : 4770 vs 5770, i know they are ati card's but im just proving my point.

on topic: roll on 495!!! i need an excuse to upgrade to an i7!

Well, it seems that the GTX 460 in SLi is extremely capable, only missing the 5970 by 5fps. In my opinion, if Nvidia wants to create a dual gpu card, they should go with two GTX 470's. Overall it would perform better than a 5970 as two GTX 460's perform nearly as good as a 5970.

Benchmark Scores 25,000 3dmark06 at 4.35Ghz processor, 835core card!
GTX 460 1gb cards dont have all shaders fully enabled on the GF104 core.

Just make some modified GTX 460's High clocks, all stream processors enabled with 2gb of on board memory and a really long PCB to house it all.

And they edge out the competition at a potentially Lower price on release.

because I dont know if you realized it, but the HD 5970's have risen in price from the 499 price tag, Now they have gotten to 599-699 for the same exact card.

Nvidia will be like *ohay* and release the card at 579.99
Have there GTX 485 out at 529.99
Have there GTX 480 at 479.99 or Lower or even stop making the card all together.

the GTX 495 will be faster and acceptable at a point because even if it requires 3 6 pin connectors, It will be that of ok with all the 4gb HD 5970 shit going around.

It all depends, Nvidia probably just tricked us on releasing there GTX 480 at 499.99 So they can have some headroom to lower the price down like a stone to 400 bucks with better production numbers.

The dream would have nvidia announce, a full GTX 470 and up price drop of 50 dollars for every card- GTX 470 at 300 bucks, GTX 480 at 400 bucks, GTX 485 at 450-480 bucks, and GTX 495 way above hitting the 550+ range.

Which would be acceptable sense competition which is ATI will probably react in doing so buy just lower the price of the HD 5970 the next month or quarter down to 499 as original.

And the GTX 495 is going to be faster then a generic HD 5970 but I dont think they will edge the 4gb cards from ATI.

Thats my opinion.

Nvidia seem like they are in it to win it. ATM ATi is creating crap 4gb 5970 which only have an extra 10fps increase and sell for $400 more. You have basically summed up what I was about to say.

The entire 5xxx series is win. Yeah the 5970 4gb is perhaps one of the not so desirable cards. Many would say that Nvidia 4xx series cards are crap.. well many have. The GTX460 is Nvidia getting back on track. I find your statement just a little ridiculous. If Nvidia was in it to win it, I would think they wouldn't be so late in releasing these cards.

You seem to getting ATi and ATi's board partners confused.

You could say the exact same thing about the GTX 295 MARSBar.

Then you realise Asus makes it, not nVidia, and your point becomes invalid.

It's a lie! Don't be fooled!

The GTX460 is a good card no doubt. Hopefully Nvidia can get the rest of their lineup out now and it'll be interesting to see if ATi actually does anything.

I agree, though I wouldn't mind Nvidia releasing one powerhouse of a card. Like ATi they released the main parts of the 5xxx series 5850/5870/5890, then worked on lower end and then BLAM the 5970 monstrosity gpu came out, I'm hoping Nvidia will do the same, fermi has so much potential, it's a shame they binned the original GTX 480. With a few tweaks with the cooler and some things to help power consumption, Nvidia have a winning card on their hands.

The cooler is tweaked enough don't you think... it is just a hot card. Tweaks to the power consumption will make an expensive card more expensive, the fact that they binned it to me says failure... and its a shame, like you said it does have potential.

... the GTX 495 is going to be faster then a generic HD 5970 but I dont think they will edge the 4gb cards from ATI.

If that happens, its going to suck! :shadedshu
Since 2xGTX 460s are 10% lower performing than a single HD 5970. The GTX 495 should atleast have a 20-30% performance gap ahead from the HD5970. Or else I'm going to be really disappointed with nVidia. :shadedshu I want to have the GTX 295 experience with the 4xx series. :D Once the GTX 295 came out, it literally crushed its competition. :rockout:

If the full potential of fermi was to be unleashed, I'm guessing Nvidia won't be using a dual slot cooler, I'm thinking more of the tri-slot cooler of that Zotac GTX 480. Load was at like 70 degrees celcius which was good and with the full potential of fermi, it should be 80 degrees celcius/90 load.

Cards I think will be released:
GTX 475
GTX 460x2
GTX 485 (full potential of fermi)
GTX 470x2
GTX 480x2 (if they can get temps under control)

What do you think?

Look at nvidia strategy and you will find that it is the same as ati did 6 months ago:
GTX 460 = 5830
GTX 475 = 5870
GTX 485 = 5970 (which is the 5870 with lower clocks, just like a 5860 :p)
GTS 455 = 5770
GTS 450 = 5750
GT 430 = 5670

Equal means same spot of strategy

None of those cards in the poll makes sense. If anything Nvidia will release a dual card based on 460/465 design and battle 5870x2 cards.

I think a fully enabled fermi is extremely unlikely at this point. Theres no way it will end up faster than the 5970 and the gtx480 already beats the 5870 so there's no target for a 512sp gf100.

I do think that a dual card with fully enabled gf104 cores is going to happen and that it is likely to beat the 5970. that's a card with a target place in the market.

while we're all pretty sure that the 460 1gb is going to replace the 465, I think a fully enabled gf104 singleton could also replace the gtx470 if it were clocked right.

so for me the product line up would fit as follows

dual gf104 ------------- 5970
GTX480 ---------------- 5870
single gf104 ----------- 5850
gtx460 ----------------- 5830
288sp gf104------------- 5770
240sp gf104 ------------ 5750
192sp gf 104 or gf106 --- 5670
and so on

(the above is as far as targeted competition, actual performance will vary)

there is a chance a that a crippled dual gf104 could replace the 480 in the above, but that would depend on cost comparisons, I seriously doubt it's as expenssive to make a gtx480 now as it was at launch.
