Help with basic 4g OC of QX9650 on air

incoming purchases:

1 x prolimatech super mega cooler
3 x akasa 1900 rpm viper 120mm fans (CPU push / pull, case out inline with CPU)
2 x sharkoon 1000 rpm gold ball fans (case in, case out up)

Lets see this baby cooled and then thrashed about a bit (skyrim incoming this year, need those >4gigs i think)

I'll report back with some tests middle of next week.

nice purchase how much did u pay for the cpu??, and if u can change it with q9650 u will be amazed by its overclock it can do 4ghz @1.25 cpuz 3.6@1.15 even i started windows @4.5 @1.325

I believe people get the best results with even push/pull pressure, I could be wrong though. Someone else wanna chime in on this?

Nah, negative pressure (more exhaust than intake). Depends on the situation though, if you have a system with 2 80mm in the back and 2 80mm in the front, it will be better to run all 4 instead of 2 in the back and 1 in the front (but with more powerful fans in the back).

250 GBP for QX9650 from amazon mechant, If you shop around and buy an OEM bulk then i think there are some pretty good deals floating around with these. I did post a link in another thread and someone from here ate one of them up too

seems pretty expensive 400$ i got the q9650 used for 220$ alittle expensive but better than changing board ,ram, since boards here are expensive+the q9650 differs from the qx9650 with new stepping which is e0 this stepping loves 4ghz+

Well, a new Q9650 is 250GBP+. I do not really like second hand CPU as god knows what stuff people have done to it - at least when I abuse i know what happened and had the fun of doing it myself.

My thinking was to keep my 775 board and ram, save a bit of money in the short term and buy myself some high end gaming for as little as possible. I did end spending a little more on good cooling and fans, but that has a pretty good shelf life.

I agree . I would have went with the one you have but settled for the Q9650 and well I LOVE it . @ 4.1GHz I could not be more pleased . I can hit 4.2 and have hit 4.3 GHz with the TEC/WB keeping it supper cool but I can not run that WB right now I need a power supply .

super mega cooler arrived and installed. Waiting on push/pull/exhuast 1900 vipers but ran a test with a single 1000 silent eagle pulling on the CPU today. Super mega is at 52degs at 3.67g so far at stock volts, that's a nice improvement. The cooler seems cool to touch under max load, a tiny bit warm maybe, but awesome so far. I will go for 4g tomorrow with the single pull fan and see how it goes. I suspect success.

pretty cool man great job i have problems with cooling i posted windows in 4.5 ,but it gets hot for 4ghz im staying at 3.6 for this crappy cooler

Are you really in bagdhad meran as I have noticed big temperature differences from abient room temperature.
