1st PC- 1700$ roughly.
Intel i-7 970
6gigs of RAM
ATI 6950
1TB HD
^basically it, except without the keyboard I want and add in a surge protector.
HAS TO BUY WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM

2nd PC- Roughly 1450$
AMD 1100t 6 core CPU
8gigs of RAM
ATI 6950
2TB HD
Kingston 30gig SSD
Razer Arctosa Keyboard
Comes with Windows 7 home premium

I am aiming towards the 2nd for the obvious reasons...but everyone is saying AMD sucks and not to get a 1100t. Your choice/reasoning? (I know the intel has hyper threading...but still):banghead:

AMD does not suck.

Both PCs will perform the same at general tasks.

You will need to give us a break down of what the PC will be used for if you want a detailed answer.

But judging by the two options, I would go for the AMD build, because it has more ram (8GBs), a bigger hard disk (2TB), a secondary SSD HD..and its cheaper!

Edit:

The PC is going to be used to play games...simple as that, video editing etc. I play games like CoD or Starcraft...and some RPG games, nothing like Crysis etc.

Both processors will handle games, as with the GPU. For video editing both is good but I would go for the 6 core AMD and the additional ram. But as the guy above said AMD bringing out their new line of bulldozer CPUs in a couple of months so it might be worth waiting.

Yeah well what if it doesn't ? You and I have no proof that this Bulldozer CPU will beat the core i7 ! But I agree wait and see . Then you can make a better choice .

If you have to have one right now id go for #2. In reality I would wait till q4, then you can choose between newer gear or with what you have right there for much cheaper. Those systems already rock.

I would personally try to use a few months to piece together a rig from deals through slickdeals.net and BST forums. You can get some incredible bang for your buck if you just have patience.

Are you buying the rig premade or you are building one yourself? Also, where do you live, and what buying options do you have?

Based on my guesses, I think 2module Bulldozer is going to be a bit weaker than native 4c4t processors, but quite a bit better than your average 2core HT i3's.

Personally, I would build around a i5 2500K with that budget, but if those 2 are your only choices, I would go for the AMD's its quite a bit cheaper and you will not be able to fully utilise the 12 threads of the 970.

Yea I'm going with the AMD, not only cheaper...but the final price is 1400$ and with that I get everything I listed, plus a Logitech G9x gaming mouse, so not only do I get like 4 extra things with the AMD, but I save 400$, If I upgrade to a I-7 I'll be doing it next year or so, I don't think any current games that I play will chew away a 6core 1100t with a 6950 flashed to 6970.:rockout:

I wouldn't exactly say that. The new i5/i7 are significantly better than the 1100T and for that matter any of the AMD offerings. According to;

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/desktop-cpu-charts-2010/Gaming-Left-4-Dead-2,2433.html

On a rather CPU-dependant game the 2600\2600k beat the 1100T by a solid 60fps~. No obviously you won't see that kind of massive gap in every game, but it should always be taken into consideration. If you're building a gaming computer there is really no reason to get even the 1100T since the 965/970 are substantially cheaper and offer similar performance in like 90% of games. I would go with Sandy-Bridge to be honest.

Unfortunately AMD is 2 gens behind at the moment. Even with six cores there is no advantage over 4 faster SB ones.

The 970 would be a poor choice for a price/perf gaming rig; I7 IMO has been superceded by SB for gaming. Try a 2500k if buying now or if you need to burn the cash a 2600k.
