I wonder what the chances of a recert being a 470 are. Or was the XLR8 never a 470?

Some were back when the 465's first came out as I remember. I am thinking that some people flashed these cards with 470 bios's and borked the card(hince regular 465 under the hood) with nothing else actually wrong with it. Therefore they were sent back for RMA and PNY just reflashed the card back to a regular 465 and sold them as refurbished. I am thinking it would be the same as new aside from perhaps less of a warranty? I would not expect them to be unlockable. At $99 they don't need to be. Its a steal.

I bought a recert. PNY 465 a while back and it unlocked to a 470 without an issue. It's a bit late in the game now, but you never know.

For PNY 465 Black back PCB will unlock, the blue one is not or you can see numbers of memory chips 10 = unlock ; 8= not

According to a number of reviews they have a mix of cards, black (unlockable) and blue, some unlock some don't, someone also claimed that the card they got was already unlocked.

I've bought 3 of these recerts several months ago before the GTX500 series was released. Every single one unlocked. I've still got 2 running for me(sold the other one).

I just ordered 2 more, I'll let you all know if they are unlockable.

Damn, my cards are scheduled to arrive tomorrow, but I'm leaving for vacation tonight.

I was really hoping to see if they unlocked before I went on vacation. I don't suppose the Girlfriend would be willing to push back our vacation a day so I could go into the office and pick them up, and let me take a computer with so I can test unlocking them... :ohwell:

My main gripe is when they do it at a card's launch at over the cards retail price. Seeing prices go up in a recession always bugs me. Also those new customer coupons they give out but don't offer to long time purchasers from newegg.

Its just thier automatic pricing system that raises the price when stock gets low.

And I get special coupons pretty often based on past purchases that are because Im a past customer.

Thats weird, I don't. Although I did get a coupon for an email address that I registered to newegg a while back that I hadn't bought anything from yet. There is a thread on [H] about it occurring only for "new" customers and not for long time customers. Maybe they changed their policy given they have a newegg rep there. And I am not referring to newsletter coupon codes but rather the $20 off $50 they have periodically. This is starting to feel like fatwallet and slickdeals. :laugh:

Most of the coupons are 10-15% off ranges of products, like 10% off all Linksys products, or 10% off Samsung monitors, things like that.

Well I just stopped into the office to grab the new goodies. Both of the cards I recieved had a blue PCB and only 8 memory chips, so no unlocking for me.

Oh well, still awesome cards for the price, I think I'll resell them on ebay for a small profit though, I don't really have a use for them myself.

Dang, that's a bummer Tekie!! Would have been sweet if they would have been the black 10 memory chip versions. Ah heck, you should be able to sell them pretty quick on fleabay.
