Am2/Am3 stock heatsink on a socket 462 or socket A motherboard?

Hi, I want to ask if anyone has tried to mount an Am2/Am3+ stock heatsink on a socket 462 motherboard? Is it even possible with maybe some small modding?

I have a AMD athlon 2600+ cpu and on the stock heatsink I was able to clock it to 1.8 GHz (temps were 40 degrees celsius) but when the fan broke I bought a used spire cpu cooler but the temps are almost 10 degree celsius more and now I'm looking for a better alternative.

I know it is not much of a pc but it was my first PC so I'm feeling sentimental about it.

Socket A/462 have most of the time no bracket the HSF was directly mounted on the socket part ... so most of the time a AM2/2+/3/3+ will have a too large base, i saw some good HSF with a socket A mounting but i cant remember which one atm .... modding some smaller base HSF could be doable but mostly dangerous, IE: too much pressure on the die or not enough contact, could end in a cracked/fried chip

i saw some Socket A with a 4xhole mounting with almost the same spacing as the AM2 standard (which is the standard spacing of all AMD socket since AM2 to FM2+)

There's different size clamp. Since AM2/AM3 CPUs have a die cover, and 462 don't - the stock clamp will be too loose, plus you won't be able to hook it onto the socket. The cheapest solution is to find Socket A stock or cheap cooler, like Titan D5TB or similar and try to switch the clamp. But, since the cooler itself is bigger, it will definitely cause some difficulties...

I will try to get my hands on a used AM3+ one and hopefully try it this month.If it doesn't work I'll just get a used stock 462 heatsink and replace the dead fan.

if it doesn't work you will most likely need a new CPU

Mine is a bit more but, quality is top notch. None of the Socket A Coolers are STELLAR ICE packs! But, although mine is in storage, that Nexus has been/ was working flawlessly for over a year, before the storage (due to living conditions). I have seen, here somewhere, Socket A's water cooled!! I will not be trying that anytime soon!

I Always used the Thermaltake Volcano 11+ xaser edition on my Socket A's that saw overclocking. They can still be had on ebay. Hell I think I atill have 2 or 3 of them here.

Yeah I saw the volcano but it's 5500 rpm if I'm not mistaken. But I have given up on trying to place the AM3 heatsink on it because it is wider than the 462 socket and could never fit even with modding. I will just get a replacement fan for my old heatsink and get it over with.

The Volcano 11's use a 80mm case fan. or you could use an adapter to run a 90 or maybe even a 120mm on them.

If you don't like the noise - get Thermaltake Big Typhoon. This is another rock-solid cooling device for any platform from s462 to FM1.
I had one laying around somewhere and it went around 8 different rigs now. Cooled my Athlon x2 5200+, Core2Duo E6600 and E8500, Phenom CPU and many others.
