I got me an Opty 165 CCBBE Stepping on an Abit At8 32X 939 mobo and its screaming. However, Id go with AM2 and either ATI or Nvidia. Or you can do Intel, but ATI plays better with them it seems. Either way, you cant go wrong.

Depends on your budget..
I love my build, check my Sys Specs! It just screams!
I like my Intel/ATI combo, as it's very stable, good picture quality and decently priced. Do you plan on overclocking? Do you want it very quiet or semi quiet? P965 boards are a dime a dozen and a lot of them OC well, there's a few that are exceptional to that such as my P5B Deluxe and the Gigabyte DS3's and I've heard some good of Infinity's 965 board.

What do you want out of your PC? What do you expect it to do? What will you do on your PC? If planning to OC, how for do you want to go to hit a target oc (the more OC, the more expensive cooling will get)?

I love my x1950pro...XT's are pretty damn sweet also. Make a list of what you're interested in, go read some reviews of what you like, find comparisons, I try to get the best bang for the buck I can...but sometimes it's worth it to spend extra for quality also...

Here is a list of components.
Intel E6300 and overclock it at least to 3 Ghz
Mobo Asus P5B DELUXE or the Asus P5W DH DELUXE 975X
Corsair or OCZ 1 Gb 800 hoping to overclock them too...
Case: Vitsuba Master black. (It´s a brand wich maybe is not being sale in USA)
If you want to see....
http://www.vitsubagroup.com/prod_pc3.htm
HD WD SATA II 16MB 250GB
Of Course i should buy a new cooler for the E6300... maybe a ZALMAN (don´t know wich could be the besto choice, I don´t care the noise. I´m always listening to music with my actual PC
Perhaps an Sapphire X1950Pro or the XT version I hope!
DVD-RW LG

I would suggest a C2D cpu, 8800gts card and at least 2gig ram...

Simple bro

C2D - 200
8800gts - 300
2gig - 250
Mb - 250

there is a grand for most of the magor parts....

Have you got a budget??

Ya don't need an 8800gts unless you have a good, large, high rez monitor and game enough to use it, and good cooling in your case, they're like internal fireballs!! They're sweet cards, but if you're planning on going vista, be prepared for some issues. My x1950pro suits me fine...and will until well after the next gen ATI cards come out.. But 2 gigs of ram is about right for now...I have no issues with 2 gigs, and am very glad I decided to get 2 instead of 1. With my setup I spent just north of 800..and couldn't be happier! If you don't need current top of the line graphics, but want good bang for your buck get an x1950pro..save some money and get some better cooling.
My AC freezer 7 pro cools my OC'd e6300 very well, and the cooler is cheap. With my P5B i have it set to performance mode..it works very very well.
P5B Deluxe is a great board!
Also check into G.Skill PC6400 phu2-2gbhz..I have these and I love em! ddr2 800 @ 960, 2.25v, 4-4-4-5 timings! Also have a $20 corsair xms airflow cooler on em!

But if you want top of the line, get the 8800..it's #1 for the moment.

Don't skimp on airflow dynamics or cooling! It will pay off big time later on!
