Burn-in / stress / bench software for 290x (or any video card)

I'm putting an EK waterblock on a reference 290x, the block just arrived today. I'm looking to overclock and monitor temps vs. the reference cooler. Also watch the system temps in general with a radiator shared between CPU and GPU.

I usually use Furmark to test temps on video cards but have heard negative comments about that (and not sure why).

Looking for thoughts and recommendations... software (and advice) must be free ;P

Yeah run valley or heaven bench and bench it and let it run in a loop.. That'll heat it up

Use Unigine Heaven or 3Dmark. Furmark is not popular any longer because it just pulls a ton of power.

Furmark seems to be the Prime95 of video stresses

3d mark won't max out the GPU load like the other you and I mentioned.

+1... or 3DMark (Fire Stike - Extreme). That will pound on your GPU.

or Valley... sure.

3DMark Fire Strike Extreme will also beat the tar out of the GPU... though not sure you can loop that without buying the full version.

I want to loop for a few hours to see where the H2O temps stabilize, and if the extra heat affects my CPU overclock.

I think you only have to pay if you want the benchmark (scoring) to loop. If you just run the program it will still loop without giving you a score.

Yup that's correct, just run it on max and after it gives you the score just let it keep running.

i think valley is most suitable and balanced benchmark for testing GPU clocks. after that heaven 4.0 is extra heavy for any GPU especially when Extreme tessellation. grind the gpu hard.

True, i see at least a 50w more usage than any game that i play, and games using vsync it can be as much as 150w - 210w more.

furmark puts an unnatural load on your gpu. people do not like that it heats the 290x up so much so they claim it is dangerous....

i would say it is, but not as much as stupid people.

Furmark is used to test your GPU beyond natural levels. how far your GPU can hold and to what extend it can survive. 5c-10c more than gaming temp. it is recommended not to run or test more than 5 minutes. and its more than enough to judge it

It can be a lot more than 5-10c if you use vsync when your gaming (@60Hz).
