GIGABYTE GTX 770 VERY QUICK QUESTION

I just got my GTX 770 and i was wondering, why when im booting PC videocard fans are working kinda heavy until Windows 7 logo, after that fans working quiet. Its all the time like that. Reinstalled drivers, Furmark 10 min, max 77 C temp. No artifacts. Just wondering, its ok?

I own the 2GB OC Windforce 770, and that is totally normal. As eidairaman1 stated above, it is a self test. Like the vid card's POST in a sense. Nothing to worry about, and I don't believe anything you can do about it...maybe if you mod the BIOS but maybe not even then.

Yep my Powercolor x1950 Pro did as well. Still does in fact! It had the AC Xcellero2 cooler iirc....bad design...exhausted down towards the port (???)...but the card stayed under 65C.

I also had an XFX HD5870 that did the same thing. But I don't believe my NV 9600 GT or 8800GTS512 do, and the GTX 570 in the upstairs PC doesn't. The 3Dfx VooDoo Banshee fan might, but it's a tiny 35-40mm fan on a tiny heatsink.

The 770 isn't bad though, it does get noisy, but below 80% isn't bad at all. I run a custom fan profile using EVGA precision, but the stock profile does a good job with this cooler. I plan to reseat the heatsink on mine soon...still on original paste after almost 2 years, but still has good temps so I'm in no rush. Been an excellent card, performer.

its to make sure the fan can spin up, so that it cant overheat when drivers arent available - as an example, while installing the OS in the first place, or sitting in the BIOS.

And it is also meant to help remove dust buildup

I asked that question to MSI about the gtx670pe oc 2gb fans spinning at high rpms while booting and i was told that this is normal and it is a feature to clean the card from dust. To be honest, i hate it.

I got an asus 760 and no more noise.

Completely normal self test, its mostly because the drivers have not initiated yet in the system.
