I agree: that would be fun. Small party, with voice comms. He goes that way, I go this way, he yells "Holy Crap!" in Vent or TS, I go "Where are you? and don't say 'Over Here!!'", and go scrambling off to help. We solo, we duo, life is good. Only issue would be matching up mods..... That would be a major pain, because of personal preferences, but if you could, together, come up with an acceptable list of mods, it really would be fun to play with someone... Small groups would be ok... I'd like to get into a partying system.... *sigh* I want the MMO, without the first "M"... just SmallMultiplayerOnline..... :)

As long as there's unexplored land on Tamriel, there can be a TES game. After that, not sure what they'd do.

The problem there was Elder Scrolls games have always been about a deep and long story, with an open world and tons of side quests (as @m0nt3 pointed out) played as a SP mode. That's what they should have stuck with. They have proved over time that if you develop a very feature-rich, fun game, that allows modding, that sales do not suffer. No need, IMO for them to ever approach MP element again.

ESO is where the TES cash cow really shines. They used the name and the reputation to fund a generic and box standard MMORPG, that just happened to have TES familiar elements ; rather than making a TES game with an online mode or online code.

It's been widely agreed that a TES game with Borderlands type lobby match making (you and seven of your best buddies) running around Skyrim (for example) with full cooperative support (missions, some cutscenes, story, development/progression etc), would have been the ultimate multi-player game to date.

They could still do it. I bet if Bethesda spent all their development time and resources making a net code for Skyrim, instead of making TES 6, they could easily sell it as a DLC. Since it would be online based (and uncrackable if they avoid implementing LAN) they'd make ridiculous amounts of money - possibly more than new TES game - and that's just on the DLC alone. Since the DLC requires the base Skyrim game, whatever a mount of potential sales were lost due to piracy the first time around, might just cancel itself out when people have to run out and buy the game in order to make the DLC work...

And let's not get started on how the mod community would implode from pure awesomeness.

People spend $$$$ on stupid shit like collector's editions for games that they don't even have to pay for (when they could just download it). Imagine what people would shell out for the opportunity to fight in the battle of white run with their friends.

you think bethesda will learn from the mods made for skyrim and use them for the next elder scrolls game like the head tracking mod they left that out in skyrim but it was in oblivion
Yes, they do pay attention. For instance, all the house mods in their games finally got them to do Hearthfire. I fully expect them to further improve on that idea in the next one.

whats wrong with ESO is it the fee is why most people wont play it or just the game its self being a MMO?

The complaint I heard most often was that it tried to satisfy fans of Elder Scrolls games and MMOs, but failed on both fronts. Minimal group content, very flat quests, guild stores, etc. Personally, some of the nuances got on my nerves, like why can't I prevent the chat window from fading out!?

They did pretty good with the PvP and being a single server was a plus.

I think they should look at co-op, not MMO. It shouldn't take too much effort to add and significantly adds to value.

I don't expect any news on the next one until Fallout 4 is released. Personally I'd like to see the entire Elder Scrolls world in the next game.
Agreed. FO4 is on their plate now. They do like Intel with a tick-tock. Tick is upgraded engine with TES title. Tock is same engine with Fallout title.

We won't see hide nor hair of TES6 until FO4 launches. TES6 is probably only in the concept phase at this point.

People have been asking for this since Oblivion got popular on consoles. I think they're seriously missing out on potential value if they don't do it. I'd have bought Skyrim on release instead of waiting for the GOTY to go on sale of £7 if it had multiplayer, both local and online. Even if it just support 1 extra person, it'd be a step in the right direction. I believe now they're beginning to realise ESO subscription was a mistake.

I just hope the jump in visuals is as large as it was from morrowind to oblivion. Skyrim was a bit of a let down in terms of visual fidelity but the plethora of mods did help appease that disappointment.

Gosh, I saw a huge jump in visuals between Oblivion and Skyrim, even without mods, from the quality of vegetation to the vastly improved faces and animations. Maybe it's just me though.

=) this has to be some type of corporate issue, not development - I can't imagine the neck beards at Bethesda don't already dream about this. Some of the developers have probably been writing net code for years, little by little when management isn't watching - hosting secret
get togethers and speakeasies while smoking pot and listening to Strangehold.

why? Elder Scrolls games are best known for the modding support. Hell, Skyrim on PC right now with a ton of mods will probably still look better then the next ten Elder Scrolls. Not to mention the animations the mod community have created are a lot better than the ones Bethesda came up with for the vanilla game.
Because bethesda got super butthurt over some of the sex mods and tried to break ALL custom animations in an update.
Good thing the community knows more about bethesda's engine than bethesda, we've only been fixing their games for 12 years now

with today's technology I would think they could finally make the whole world of tamriel in one game, although I doubt it because it would take too much work, detail would be spread out, and one region as a game world already worked for their last three games.

There's news that it would be set on Argonia though.

with today's technology I would think they could finally make the whole world of tamriel in one game, although I doubt it because it would take too much work, detail would be spread out, and one region as a game world already worked for their last three games.

There's news that it would be set on Argonia though.

Arena already did this.

Yes, it was way too spread out. And largely procedural generated.

Yeah, Arena was kinda cool, but details were spread out though.

What I meant is, with today's technology they could pretty much include all of Tamriel with the graphical quality of Skyrim, Skyrim Vanilla was about 5GB and it included Skyrim only, If you use that as a basis and make Tamriel, game would be in the 40-50GB range which is the size of most next-gen games.

Although like I said detail would be spread out, unlike If you just put all the 50 gigs into that one region and make some super-awesome graphics. For me though I would prefer all of tamriel.

Wouldn't make as much money. They'd make a lot more money selling as they are, Tamriel in pieces. If this is the case which it is, then I can only expect them to give us more content, in terms of everything, textures, objects, details, etc..

Heck, I'd pay 4x as much for a truly epic, complete elder scrolls game where you could travel between all the regions.

But I doubt everyone would, hence why it's not happening.

A little sad at this, honestly... I'll deal with the micro-transactions, but the path that DDO took with not allowing all content kinda soured me a bit on them. When I actually ran a couple of Arkfalls last night in Defiance (I logged in yesterday morning, and forgot how much fun I had been having playing), I looted some blues and a purple, that are only allowed to be used if you download the DLC for $10. Not sure if I'll keep playing, or just uninstall... In-game bonuses and premium currency are one thing.. limiting game play turn me off...

I dunno. Before WoW, I insisted I'd never pay monthly to play a game, but that initial game was so spectacular, I couldn't say no.... I guess it's the boiling water and the frog... maybe a few years from now, I'd be perfectly fine with paying for half a game, but right now, not so impressed... Still, I think I'd spend a little time on it, depending on how much they want up front.
