xfx recommend to use 850W PSU on single 280x card:laugh:
i dont know, but my card uses up to 300W in peak level, CPU 100W in peak..so i dont know if that caused by PSU:)
thats why i adviced to downclock a bit -> your card use less power
but i think it's not PSU problem

not brand but brand+model

So, this XFX TS 550 is not good at all?

EDIT: In addition - artifacts on 7970 are showing during boot - especially after reboot of system - not every time, and never at first turn ON.

I'm not saying that it's bad, but it's ~suspect~ as far as it running within it's posted specs. I don't buy that brand.

Why do you keep buying old style GPUs? The R9-280X OC cards are a rebranded 7970, but they're sure to have newer style components on their PCBs.
Better style, newer designs, what's not to like?

it's good, but you should TEST all, may be it's not enough(but i think problem is NOT in psu)
also, about PSUs - in peak they can handle about 10-15% more than they're designed for
about bios of card - have you checked - if there any newer availible? had you downclocked? tested in any becnh/game?
about turning off - there are lots of thought why it happens, we're just trying resolve that white stripes first

There is no newer BIOS for this card (already at F72 version).

So, this XFX TS 550 is not good at all?

...and after hard reset, everything is back to normal.

for me seems like bad connection, check 6-8 pin(look deeply - may be some dust there), cables

I will connect the card by two adapters: 2x molex>>6 pin and 2x molex>>8 pin, to be sure, that dedicated 6 and 8 pin connectors of my PSU are not faulty.

just dont ever do this(it may cause damage of card or PSU)

if problem is only with boot - reflash your own bios with low clocks in boot time(they are maxed in boot - Clock State 0)

They recommend watts instead of amps. That's why it's typically a rather high number. Because even the cheapest PSU of that wattage will usually have enough amps to handle the card.

Like I keep telling people...watts don't mean squat. Watts are like Horsepower. Both are a result of math. Volts x Amps = Watts, Torque x RPM(to put it simply) = Horsepower. So, equally, Horsepower don't mean squat either. It's all about amps, and torque. That's where the power's really at(respectively).

So, I will try to connect the card by one dedicated connector, and one by molex adapter.

Please tell me, could it be motherboard fault?

Possible reasons:
1. Faulty motherboard - but with 7850 everything is good.
2. Faulty PSU/connectors of PSU - 6/8 pin additional voltage - these PSU worked at bitcoin miner (Antminer S1) for ~5 months. Connected by 2 x 6 pin-connector. Could it be a problem? I checked on 7850 one 6 pin connector and another - no problems. But 7970 has 6 pin and 8 pin socket. 8 pin connector in this PSU is in 6+2 pin design.
3. Faulty card again. But...the second card in row, and the exatcly the same problem? Bad luck?

What do you think about these possible reasons?

XFX PSUs are done by... Seasonic.

Only the XFX 550w / 650w PRO are Seasonics. It works this way with almost every brand: Corsair also sells crappy ones (CX Builder series) and good ones. Cooler Master same deal. This is just all about pricing brackets though and not a company's culture, something that would bleed over to all price brackets. Similarly companies like MSI and Asus also sell low quality budget crap and high end stuff. If you are avoiding any brands, avoid OCZ for example. They happen to be shit across the board in whatever they build - PSU, SSD...

Most of the time, you get what you pay for. In general, you pay too much. Commerce :)

@BambOOs : don't connect high power components through molex adapters, you're asking for trouble. No, also not just one of the two - and especially not when you are trying to find issues. A molex connection can introduce its own problems.

I sent a support ticket to AsRock, regarding possible compability issue VGA<>P67 Pro 3. We'll see what they say.

So, I must check this card on another computer. Or maybe on other PSU/Motherboard.

CPU/RAM and other components are not suspicious IMO.

o, I must check this card on another computer.
heh, that you should start from:)
didnt think you got this option:)
after checking - if nothing helps - create your own bios with downclocked memory/gpu, also why you havent tested this card with donut?

I checked voltage levels: (professional voltage meter) from MOLEX connector.
12V: 12.25 V IDLE///12.15 Full Load (OCCT power supply test)
5V: 5.11 V - 5.25 V
3.3V: 3.36 - 3.38 V

Also, I checked all connectors, there is no any dust there.
So my PSU is OK.

I guess, it is motherboard fault, or card itself.

I will check the card on another PC possibly tommorow or at saturday.

free bench/burner - msi kombustor -> one of tests is called "fury donut", 15-20 mins are ok to test

guess it's card problem, may be bad/wrong bios

I tested the whole PC with OCCT power supply test - there is very similar "donut" in GPU part test. No problems with artifacts in this test. Temp are OK too (max 65 for GPU).

We will see hopefully tommorow, is it card or motherboard, when I test the card on another PC.

It will be very bad luck if it will be the card fault...

I'm back with some feedback:

I tested the card on:
Gigabyte GA-945GCM-S2L (yeah, really old stuff)
2GB DDR2 RAM
Intel Pentium E2180
250 GB Samsung HDD
and my XFX TS 550

And...no artifacts. I rebooted a PC a couple of times and there is no problem...

So, my AsRock P67 is faulty?

Edit: it seems, that driver install on 7970 is weird. Why? Let me tell you:
When I install driver (newest Omega), computer needs to be rebooted at the end of installation. Its normal, yeah. After reboot, everything is OK. But if I reboot the OS one more time, the resolution is the lowest as possible, and Windows is trying to install drivers for VGA. On 7850 there is no such weird behaviour. What do you think about this? Do you have similar behaviour with driver install?

I have exatcly the same issue as this guy!

"Hi, my vga works pefectly when i start the system but every time i reboot the pc windows recognizes it as a standard VGA and there is no way to change the driver from OS. If i turn off (shutdown) the pc and turn it on again everything works fine. Basically i can't reboot and as a workaround i need to turn off the pc (using windows ) and turn it on again (power button on the case). Sometimes after reboot i got artifacts (white vertical strips on display) but not always and that never happened when starting from PC turned off. All components of the pc are brand new (2 weeks) , windows has just been installed, i didn't overclock card or cpu. The Bios of motherboard is the newest version (2.70). I tried with different connection cable (dvi, hdmi ecc.) having same results. I can't try the VGA on another desktop (i don't have other desktop PC available in which the card could fit)to check if it's causing the same problem. In Bios the primary connection is PCI-E and the card is installed in PCI E number 2 of the motherboard, i didn't use lucid virtu software (IGP and GPU working together) even if my motherboard has an igp chipset on motherboard (HD4000).

My rig is:

Motherboard Asrock Z77 Extreme 6 socket 1155, PSU Antec HCG-620M 620W 80+ Bronze, 8 gb RAM DDR3 Corsair Vengeance Blue Low Profile CML8GX3M2A1600C9B 1600MHz 8GB (2x4GB) CL9, CPU Intel Core i5-3570k, hd SSD Samsung 840 UltraSlim Series 128GB Pro, Internal Sata Hard Disk Western Digital Red 2TB, asus xonar dx, wireless pci tplink

How can i fix ? Thanks in advance. "

my PC starts with black screen if i start it before turning on TV, while intel grafics is offed in BIOS, it starts with intel hd by default - dont know why
also, i cant instal both amd drivers and intel smart connect(with old amd drivers no problem - only with omega)
i think it's software problem with amd
what OS do you use(7(sp1)-8.1, x86-x64)?
