wouldnt the mobo need all kinds of drivers? (was it apple that provides windows drivers for bootcamp users?)

what about linux now that i think about it... although osx is 'close enough' in some cases

Macs have firmware, not drivers. I'm no expert on Macs but I think Bootcamp is the only way to go.

Edit: Maybe but I suspect it is a one-way street (no going back).

i meant, the parts inside (gpu, chipset, controllers, etc) need drivers to work in windows, but if the mobo isnt some off the shelf product with its own driver downloads page or disc, then how can it fully function in windows? (although microsoft has a generic driver for a lot of things by now)

You can remove Mac OS X and install Windows normally, but you must use Bootcamp drivers. Week ago I had an old MacBook to repair, with OS X Leopard (!), because it has only x86 CPU and everything above the Snow Leopard was not supported.
I have formatted the HDD under the linux PC, inserted a DVD with Windows 7 x86 and... it works.

Protip: Don't remove OS X after all, it will be much easier when it comes to drivers availability. Most likely you must use drivers from Vista/7.
