i was looking for a cinebench score thread on TPU but couldnt find one, coincidentally i tested my Xeon this morning which is why i asked.

my Xeon x5650 scores 907. which is 12 threads @ 3.9
i didnt jump in to brag, just thought it might be a useful point of reference.

what cinibench are you using?

Im on low *balanced power plan atm with things open in the back ground* and getting alot higher scores

Set your VCCIN (Initial CPU Input Voltage to 1.80-1.85v) don't worrie, the heat wont go up much at all and its perfectly safe to 1.90v :pimp:
That should grease the little pig up enough to get more wiggle room and stability... also did you leave your LLC on auto like my screen shots on page 2?

Here I just ran both CB and you can see the highlighted scores near the top. Its the highest I've hit sense a clean install and actually hit a tad higher before ;)

its a very useful thread regarding overclocking settings for devil's canyon, been using it for 2 months without issue :), upgraded from i7 930 4.0Ghz and it is a significant improvement, i use it mainly for rendering video, lots of it :)... struggled during the first couple of days looking for oc sweet spot, vccin also plays role, cannot stabilize less than 0.5 over vcore and had to increase vring since i have full memory slot.

Thats very nice Toothless :), i want to get the best out of it but temp seems backing me up, also lack of ram makes me had to bump up vring to be stable.

Update:

So I backed the clocks back to stock 4/4.4 and dropped the voltage since honestly, 200mhz isn't THAT big.

Under OCCT

My issue is as soon as a core hits 80c, I get the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR BSOD and it's really annoying. If I could get rid of that error then I'm sure I could push this to at least 4.8 on 1.27v.

EDIT: Lower voltage.

there must be something wrong, probably with temp limit, coz really, some 4790 user went over 85c at 4.7-5.0Ghz while stress testing without any issue, i mean there will be if not stable but not because of temps or at least cpu will throttle the clock down (but still it worries).

flo

EDIT: and yes, this cpu is very fast already, highest clock that intel ever made, 4.4ghz will eat almost anything you throw at :)... but i already bought an overclocking motherboard, such a shame if im just leave it stock, at least 200mhz will cheer me up :)

I'd push it if not for that horrid error.

but are you sure its because of temps? really sorry i ask :), have you tried 1.3v and 1.8vccin for 4.7? just to make sure... or even 1.32v..

Then I'd easily hit over 90c due to my lack of air conditioning. It can easily get up to 32c in my room and I'm sure even hotter where my desktop is. I've also bumped the vcore to 1.28 for 4.6 but still that WHEA error kicks in.

:) bro,.. my ambient is 33c as i type now (tropical country without aircon) :), i have the same issue before, exactly the same.. i was using Enermax EST-T40 push pull,.. at 4.4ghz my temp sky rocket 92c, but its stable :), i was kinda upset with the situation (but what can i do). I picked up a used H80i, bam!!.. 65c max at 4.4, 70ish at 4.5, then now stick to 4.6 under 85c.... let me check previous post if you mentioned already your bios setting.

flo

EDIT: try 4.5ghz, disable turbo boost and enhanced turbo, set vcore 1.25v, VCCIN to 1.7-1.75, VRING/ringvolt/uncore to 1.1v, remember to keep the uncore at 4.0 !! you dont want to touch that for now :), (use x264 stress test V2), 2 loops, auto, normal.. just run the .bat file 64 bit.. if its stable you might want to lower the vcore a little bit.

^^ No, thats more like personal preference, for global overclock (any cpu) 1.25v is considered low to medium, 1.3-1.4v high and above 1.4 more like extreme :).. but all depends on how high you can push, 4.8Ghz at 1.3v for me is really worth at least on Haswell series, AMD cpu can take 1.45v easily 24/7 :).. again, personal preference.

flo

EDIT: after finding your CPU temperature characteristic then you decide whether to keep it on air or water, i say for haswell series under 1.3 can be done on air :), ambient plays important role.

My 4790K can run at 99C with Prime95 and doesn't crash. I think your chip Just Won't unfortunately. I pushed mine up to 5GHz @ 1.4v just to see if it would run Heaven, and it did, lol.

Don't feel bad Toothless, my Haswell-E sucks at high clocks, I truly lost the Silicon lottery... lol. I rolled it way back as you can see in my system specs, only 200Mhz over stock now, due to high temps here causing crashes, just like you.

Haswell still does amazingly well even at low clocks like that.

I just spent the better of half an hour defaulting and tweaking stuff in my BIOS since the rig wouldn't even post on normal settings. I got it back to stock clocks and 1.15v on the core, which I'm happy at for the moment. Still not sure why it went derp.

judging by that i can only conclude that you either have a bad cpu or a bad motherboard, and i say that because my previous motherboard (same gigabyte one) gave me problems and later died for no reason, but the replacement i got is running fine now ....so i don't know maybe if you can find another motherboard to try overclocking your cpu on will answer that

That's what a lot of people have told me when I got this board, and the reason was because the chip was running at 1.46v on first boot. (Outdated BIOS)

Could be a bad board or a bad CPU, I won't know until I can figure out cooling.

I got working CPU's that require 5v to work They were made probably before you were born
Iunno about that, but I do know I'm one of the youngest here.
