Shiny new Fury X, not so shiny new LARGE Cursor.

Hello,

Had my Fury X a few days, today all of a sudden my mouse cursor blew up for no reason at all. All settings are normal. I'm running at 4k resolution, I find that if I lower resolution, it will fix the cursor...or if I put it to sleep it fixes it, but as soon as I restart. Same ol' stuff.

Same as the issue described on this thread. http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/enlarged-cursor-with-new-amd-7790.186134/

Anyone else on the 15.15 drivers experiencing this?

Hello,
all of the sudden
all of a sudden. All of a sudden means all at once. You cant really say something is "all at the" :p

As for that cursor, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers? Use CCleaner's registry tool to clean up the registry stuff the uninstall leaves behind.

I left DPI alone, it's still at 100%

This is such a weird bug. If I take a screen shot, the cursor looks normal, but to me it looks huge. Here's a pic from my phone.

I remember there was a similar problem long time ago with the AMD HD5970's when I had bought one. I hadn't been affected though, though if I remember well they had to wait for another driver...

Yes the problem was identical, screenshot showed a normal sized cursor, whereas a photo showed the real sized one..

Edit: I did a quick google search, in the case of the 5970 it was a driver bug. Highly likely it's the same in your case now as well.

Thanks. Guess I'll wait for AMD to release a new driver, whenever that will be. Meanwhile I'll just put my PC to sleep after every reboot lol.

Do you have System Restore enabled? When you first installed the new drivers, a new restore point should have -- in theory -- been created. Maybe rolling back a few days will resolve your issue?

If it is a driver bug, you never know what to expect. Worth a try if it's buggin' ya.

I try not to keep system restore around, if any issues arise I just reinstall Windows, so unfortunately I do not.

That looks about 200% larger than it should be.

You've probably already looked at this stuff:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff629368.aspx

It definitely has something to do with DPI and/or scaling. Did you check the Catalyst Control Center and make sure all the scaling stuff is disabled in there?

That particular scaling option in CCC isn't available to me.

Needs to be plugged in via HDMI for that option to be available

I use DP 1.2 for 60Hz @ 4k. Seeing as AMD didn't include HDMI 2.0 with Fiji, it's not an option for gaming.

Go into the device manager and uninstall the graphics card and check the box that says delete driver software, do not reboot, uninstall all AMD software, do not reboot, and then run Ghost cleaner and remove all duplicate and missing entries, then unplug from the internet, do not reboot and go delete your C:\AMD folder.

Then reboot and make sure windows only installs the standard VGA driver, and then install the new driver.

Someone actually wrote a program to eliminate ghosted hardware...LOL
probably takes longer to DL it install it and run then it takes to do it manually....but then again most people aren't familiar with the command line and even if they are they probably don't know what does what...

It's amazing that most of the command line commands from Win95 still work....I wish they still gave a manual with your OS like they did back then...

Anyways I had this exact problem like 3-4 years ago and I'm almost positive it was a driver issue and a rollback fixed it...but I don't see that being an option for the Fury X...so prolly have to wait for a hotfix.

Remove ghosted hardware manually

Open CMD as Administrator-right click...run as admin...yes this still works on Win 8.1
Type
SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1

Then start Device Manager by typing:
devmgmt.msc

Then in "View" click "Show Hidden Devices"
Click on the device tab and remove the "Ghosted" Hardware....It will be the gray translucent device

@ OP try this, if you are sure windows is using the correct cursor file:

Open your "System Properties' and click on the "Advanced" tab
Click on "Enviroment Variables"
Click on "New" under the "System variables"
Enter "UI_SCALE_FACTOR" (without the quotes) in the "variable name" and "1" in the "Variable value"(also, without the quotes) ( you may obtain better results with a 1.25 variable.)
Press "OK" and try... you may need to re-boot.

If that does not work, you can go back and delete the variable input.

Just some food for thought... you may wish to try some of the other cursor files in the mouse settings pointers tab; or, install your own custom cursor.

Goodluck there.

Actually, it has been around for a long time... it is a small program and functions perfectly.
And, the sad looking little ghost face icon is cute.

The official phrase approved by dictionaries is all of a sudden. The phrase dates back to Shakespeare in The Taming of the Shrew.

http://english.stackexchange.com/questions/17021/all-of-a-sudden-vs-all-of-the-sudden

i prefer "suddenly" it requires fewer keystrokes and originates from 1250-1300;

Middle English sodain (adj. and adv.) < Middle French < Latin subitāneus going or coming stealthily, equivalent to subit (us) sudden, taking by surprise (see subito ) + -āneus composite adj. suffix, equivalentto -ān (us) -an + -eus -eous
