Hello guys!
For the last days i've been reading a lot of posts here about how to flash and so on.
i do own a xfx hd 7850 dd black edition. it's mine since 2012 and stillt is good enough for most new games on normal details.
so i decided to buy a second card via ebay and found a xfx hd 7850 dd, which was marked as broken through flashing with the wrong bios.

i hoped to find here a solution how to put the originial xfx bios (found here in tpu) back on the card.

It seems to be not fully bricked since windows detects a vga controller and gpu-z drops this info out

FOR COMPARING: THE ORIGINAL BIOS OF THE BLACK EDITION

i've tried different ways, blind flash, flash via dos, via atiwinflash, with the crossfire connected, and without, changed the pcie slots of these two..

as far as i know these both cards are pretty much the same, but the black edition is overclocked a little bit more than the normal dd.

I have no idea how to else try to reflash the card.

so my question is: is there any way to change the bios? or did some one of you had the same problem, and is sure thats this card is fully bricked?

Thanks you for your help in advance!

Keyboard Of course
Software W10 Pro 64 bit
The BIOS version numbers appear identical on both, so the issue may lay elsewhere.
It shows the card as using standard Windows drivers and not the Catalyst driver.
Chances are it is bricked, possibly through volt mods.
Does it show in Device Manager?

Hello caring1, thank you for your respond!
Yup, it does.
Pluging it in, starting the pc leads the autoinstall of the windows drivers. so windows understands that it is in fact an graphicscard in some way, but it does not go any further.
Here's what the device manager tells (german version): It says standard-vga-graphicscard.

Actually thats the reason, why im still trying to bring it back to its usual form, since windows doenst block the card and knows that it is a graphicscard. also gpu-z reads and finds it, so lets say it is some sort of alive, crippled if you want.
when im trying to flash it, it comes back to the usual "adapter not found: error 0fl01".

The only thing i didn't try is the hot swapping method, which actually might be a try worth, because in fact these cards are exactly the same on the hardware specs, the black edition is just overclocked, so it probably wouldn't destroy my card.

Even googled if there's something like a force flash via crossfire-communication, but without succes so far..

Any idea what i shall do next?

You may have to do the "Bios shorting" method. I had to do this on my 6950 that was non reference to get it to take a bios flash.

Hi

Looks like the device ID has been altered/corrupted; may need to place voltage low across pin1 & pin8 for adapter to be recognised

Note: If able to access desktop **uninstall Catalyst Drivers [select: express uninstall] **before flashing at a DOS prompt

Will require the following;
- on-board vga / iGP, PCI vga card or have a dual pcie motherboard and spare pcie vga card

- bootable flash drive
Download - HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8 & Windows 98 System Files
go here - http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/browse.php?c=21

click Primary Download unzip the files to a folder on your HDD; make sure your USB Memory stick is attached to your PC; open HP USB Disk

Storage Format Tool v2.1.8 ; select Create a DOS start-up disk/ select: using DOS system files located at: (these are the files you have just downloaded): browse to the files in win98boot; then start the process.

- up to date version of atiflash go here - http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...atiflash-3-99/

- Original and or backup copy of the bios image for the vga card

- copy atiflash and Vbios image [BiosName.rom] to the flash drive, enter the motherboard bios and make PC bootable from USB device

- length of wire * long enough for the loop to be cut with wire cutters or snips [Note: preferred thin wire from an eighty pin ide cable or similar]

Example:
1 & 8 pin wire loop vga vbios.jpg

- connect pin 1 and pin 8 on the vga Vbios chip [loop the wire or solder *make sure the wire is in good contact and that no exposed wire makes contact with other parts of the PCB]

Example
Pm25LV010 small.jpg

- boot the system with wire attached

-Type at the dos prompt; atiflash -unlockrom 1 to unlock the gpu in adapter 1 [Note: 0 is the primary card PCIe slot one & 1 is the secondary PCIE slot two][*may be required]

- type at dos prompt atiflash -ai 1 [1 if the card is inserted in PCIE x16 slot 1 on the motherboard and booting from on-board vga/iGP or PCI vga card default to 0]

- *if card is identified by atiflash!* cut wire

- flash card with original and or backup of original Vbios image; type at the dos prompt atiflash -f -p 1 [BiosName].rom

atiflash commands here - http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=57750
Thanks go out to CrackerJack

i've got the dd black edition original bios and the "normal" dd bios from the tpu-gpu-collection, i think they will do.

Hi

Do you still need the original bios?
Yes @K4lius dose require a copy of the original Vbios image. [Except the offer for the original Vbios image for the vga card if still possible]

the "normal" dd bios from the tpu-gpu-collection
Are 100% sure that the Vbios image in the TPU database is correct version has same outputs, memory timings, voltages, component instructions and PCB layout.

All additions to the Vbios collection here at TPU are welcome, they certainly come in handy as a reference data base.

Hello guys!
I can't believe it..
I've found another post, with the same problem.. i haven't found it earlier because it cares about the 7870 and i've been looking for 7850 via google and thats why i missed it!

On this thread right here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/t...-wrong-adapter-not-found.189737/#post-2968937

It's very useful because the position of the bios chip is the exactly same.

after the idea of lawII i made my way to the next tools store, got some stuff so i can solder..
while soldering i realised that i never have done that before :/
so after 5 hours (come on gimme a break :D) the wire finally was connected to the right pins, i built the card in, started into dos, checked it..
taaa-daaaa there she was, vBios was called "empty" so it was the main reason..
installed the card and now guys, look at this:

So to the left you see the original XFX HD 7850 Double Dissapation Bios, right to it you see the original HD 7850 Double Dissapation Black Edition.

The used bios for the 7850 DD was found at the gpu-collection of techpowerup and is now (at least once :) ) confirmed to work right!

LawII, XFXSupport and all the other clever minds in here who were willing to help, thank you so much! I've learnt a lot of things with your help! Thanks Thanks Thanks!
