X1800 series experiences / overclock results etc.

hi....this is my short experience...got the card today...ati tray tools or ati tool does not work properly and i get flickering when i try to oc...however i did clean install and used overdrive...the max gpu was 628?(from 600) ...however max memory was 797 (maybe it could have gone more but overdrive has only till 800)...that gave me 3dmark05 of 9073...seems a little low, but im not sure...the rest of the setup is opteron 165@2.4, asrock939 dualsata2, 2gb infieneon 2x1gb sticks, wd raptor...anyways the card runs fine, apart from the low gpu OC ...also maybe this mobo is not very good companion for the xt so thats wht the 3dmark score is low ...and yeah, the card is powercolor x1800xt 512mb...will post more findings

hm i upped the voltage form 1.275 to 1.295 and now the core goes up to almost 700...the temp is around 70 on 50% fan speed...anyways..whats teh most core or the oter voltages i shoud give to still be somewhat safe?

Not sure but i dont think that temp is safe tho.

hm it idles around 51 so staying at 70 on load is good ...don't really know how to lower it since the cpu idles at 30

I think I'd be pushing for 1.35v on that thing ...lol

If I had that card I'd be pushing 1.4-1.45 cus I have water.

funny thing...sometimes it goes all the way up in overdrive, and sometimes it stays around core 630mhz...this happens independant of the voltage, unless ati tool sets it, but doesnt show...i think ill wait for 100% proper solution to overclock it...also, how do you put water on the card?...if i take the silencer off, what should i do with the memory chips...put little heatsinks on them?

yeah...I'd say BGA RAM sinks would be good on that thing (though I kinda think that if the stock cooler is too hot...isn't it possible that it's not helping in cooling the RAM?)...but I'll investigate into the difference in stability with stock cooling and with water on my XL card...maybe tonight if I get the chance to...

Seems to be getting lower scores in 3dmark05 with the new driver, even though ccc is able to put mem at 549 and core at 554? What the ??? Tried atitool upped the volts thing keeps crashing. Cant get passed 550/550 even then, I am not seeing any worthy benefit. Can someone post their idle temp at stock speeds with stock cooling?

hmm...I'll check if I can hit 9256 in 05 when I get home from work. I know this driver does not include a performance boost...it just enables H.264 decoding and Avivo Xcode.

Come to think of it I did notice that the frame rates in ATI tool dropped yesterday...used to hit 430fps and I'm down to 370...will have to confirm that.

Used ATItool beta to up the voltages; core 1.125, mem1.965 and 1.965. Was able to max out overdrive at 575/550, improved 3dM05 a little less than 100 points. Was able to play COD2 at max settings for at least an hour and did not crash, getting about 74 degrees on load. Stock cooling. This isnt much, but am making some kind of improvement, still I think 65 idle at stock settings is high??? Requested RMA, I am dying to know if the idle temp is normal. I had an x800xl before and ran idle 40. Will try to push it to 600/600 later. BTW I used DriverCleanerPro to clean install catalyst Driver, read elsewhere that this helps, it did (I think) wasnt able to OC that much before.

Got it up to 580/550 and 3dmrk05 went up 400 points from stock. Do not know why there was such a boost in points (about 200) from 574/550??? Anyways set voltages to 1.175 core, 1.965 and 1.965 mem. Seems really stable...so far. Will not try to go further, log is showing temps in high 70's and sometimes hits 80 degrees. Gameplay is excellent, adaptive antialiasing is great, it got rid of horiz lines.

the x2 4800 is pretty dam fast. my last cpu was a p4 3.73 EE.

Okay...I'm not sure about long term stability (it's been bad with any overclock on my X1800XL)...but I did hit 9243 (last time was 9256 on 5.11) on the 5.13 drivers.

So I don't think it caused a performance drop in any way for my Venice 3200+ system. Now to see if It can survive CS:Source (Fat chance...lol).

What do you have it clocked at? Voltages? AtiTool? Water cooled? That sounds like an XT score.

I need more voltage (and I know that ppl can do 1.2+ on the XL core but I get a lockup when going beyond 1.175 which is 11.9% increase from original) I think that the voltage is not 100% accurate(actual voltage could be lower) but it may be possible that there's some kind of protection in place where if (vCore > 1.050*1.1) {VPUrecover();}...lol. Maybe it's a protection on BBATI cards (I hope...cus then maybe a BIOS flash would deal with this).

Yeah I found the same on vCore, I also set it to 1.175, but I get tons of artifacts while playing Cod2 ocD, not just black, also yellow. I do not get any artifacts while playing at stock settings. Think it is the high temp causing artifacts? I only have it set to 580/580, hits 79 degrees max.

700/800?...u using an XT card? if u are...u can probably push it more. (Now I understand why dfi-street forums makes everyone put up their specs)

Mine is Ati Built. Are you using atitool? If not, what r u using? Also am waiting for Arctic to put something out, till then I will keep it at stock...well at least most of the time.
