ic...it may be possible that there's something in the BBATI BIOS...I'll look around on the XS forums...there are tons of ppl with these cards.

I am using ATI Tool (Beta 10). I have a waterblock on mine and zalman ram sinks. Maybe I'll see if I can find a BIOS of another XL card (since everything I've seen uses the exact same reference design with a different sticker)

I'm using a PowerColor Radeon X1800XT. A few days ago I managed to successfully force the new Sapphire bios on to it aswell. So now it runs @ 700/800. Been pushing it to the max with some games and it runs very stable. So, I'm very satisfied with both the card and the new bios.

Got new case today, lowered all my temps by 10 degrees! Had a midtower before, now have full tower. Now XL is idle around 50 at stock settings. Still nothing compared to H20. Will take it back up to 580/580 and watch temps and artifacts.

Aquamark will need a .dll patch to run properly.

I've created a new thread so everyone can input on X1800XL card maker and their overclocking success. Please help me and others to see if there is any pattern between different makers.

Is 3dMark03 supposed to be lower than 05? Iam getting around 7000 in 05, and around 4000 in 03. From what I've read 03 should be higher.

I'm way late joining this thread but I've had my ATI XT for awhile now and I love it. Although I haven't found anything that was successful in overclocking it yet though. So I'll just wait until there's a stable ATI Tool version out for the R520.

I saw ur score for ur card...but noticed that ur running ur AMD chip @ 3GHz...I wish my venice could go that far.

The ATI Tool Beta 10 is doing really well...I've been using it for a while now. Just don't auto find max clocks cus I found these cards to lock up instead of getting artifacts.

Your 05 mark should reach over 10K easily...I've already reached 9256 on my XL with my CPU @2.7Ghz

Can someone explain how to save yourvide card bios (x1800xt) then apply the Sapphire bios. What commands do you use, what flash program do you use. In general as if you are speaking to a person using it for the first time.

Okay...so it looks like my self and a few other ppl are out of luck with the XL card...just flashed it with the sapphire bios...I know they've been doing 1.2v+...but unfortunately...I'm still capped at 1.175v

I didn't think that sapphire would pull it off so I went for the Built by ATI...
this is me getting saced after doing so -->

If anyone else has suggestions...please let me know.

Actually...1.2v is fine in 2D...but once 3D comes up...I get f00k3d right away. I think this has something to do with the missing metal layer...some of the XLs (like the one I have) has this bug and won't do higher voltage due to a leak

I might just sell this card when R580 is available in a few weeks

I will also be on ebay after the new cards come out. This card has been a bit@h to oc. But I have a feeling it may be partly cuz of drivers.

Remember how ATI delayed the X1800 for months?...well that was cus they couldn't get the speed to go higher than 500ish. They couldn't figure out what it was exactly until this guy found the problem and made a fix.

The chip was leaking current somewhere on the core...where electrons would jump from one transistor to another with the right amount of energy (ie. 1.2v). The fix was that a metal layer be added in a way that would prevent this. (I'm pretty sure the guy got a big bonus for this one...lol)

They has many chips still with the problem and decided that they'd become the heart of X1800XL. I read a lot on success in overclocking the XL chip and assumed that the chips with the problem are all sold out but as u can see...I was wrong. Being in Toronto, Canada...the local stores get their shipments late...but they must have got the earlier cards...and not many of them.

so when the time is right...I will sell it for an X1900XT...unless I sell my whole system...and go for the upcomming DFI Xfire board with the new ATI card

Okay...I just realized something...

So I decided to get a hex editor that can do comparison...checked the sapphire BIOS and the BBATI BIOS...also the sapphire BIOS I got from XS...they are exactly the same!!!

Looks like all cards are from one place and aren't even using a slightly different bios...the only different up until now is the packaging and the printing on the stock cooler of this card!

How can u tell if your card is missing the metal sheet?

Have u looked at other bios, asus, etc?

I haven't looked at BIOS from other makers yet...the only thing I can think of is the revision numbering on the GPU it self...but we don't have a definit revision that has the problem (ie. the first ones shipped out)...other than that...there's no other visual markings that would show the difference.

I'm a lazy guy...so I'm not going to take off my cooler on this card...I'll wait till I sell the card or maybe my whole system.

If you think about it, it makes sense. As the XT card uses 1.3v, if in no way that this chips can run under a voltage of 1.175, there is no way it will go to XT. I can't even put 1.2v on stock settings without 3D crashing. (oh...and btw...the BIOS actually says that the chip's using 1.065v...which reads as 1.075v in ATI tool)

My card seems to be a bit more stable at 1.175v 630/693...which is not too bad. but I know that I should be able to hit 700/730 with a good core.
