Tatty, are you saying the BIOS mod for the GT will work for the GTS? Im pretty sure all GTS's are 1.1volts. I dunno, been rock solid at 826Mhz.

The link for the RivaTuner 2.06 -> this is a thread where it describes how to do the .cfg edit.
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=46927

Damn...sorry, need to inject myself with reality, I missed the "S" and thought you were talking GT

I might try a BIOS mod on voltages when mine arrives (didnt get here today :( ) I am not sure what the board max regulator voltage is but it dont hurt to try, thing is, I doubt NVFlash 5.57 will work with the GTS and I would imagine it will take ages before we get a 5.58.

As far as i know my voltage is 1.15 or I do not understand my Nibitor readout.
Tnx fot the link Zen. I wil try it somewhere this week.

Nibitor:

Edit: The .cfg file works.... Tnx again.

I understand it, I might try the 1.2V in the "extra" box to see if the board has that much voltage in her, quite happy to flash her back "blind" if it does not work but if it does not work it will still be good, just no extra voltages, that is if NVflash 5.57 will actually work, it probably wont as it will probably not be able to identify the card

I have the MSI as well, so I am very interested to see what you can OC yours too. I even have a really old PCI card so I may try a 5.57 flash as well....but maybe I will wait for 5.58.

Well theres no need to worry in as much as it just wont flash, it will say "device not found" or such like, it should not knacker your BIOS.

Just did some homework, 1.15V is the max the regulators feed....no BIOS mod  There is a voltmod already for the card though but I never voltmod my cards until I have had them for at least 6 months,,,,, that way if I fry the card at least I have had some of my money's worth!

Here is the mod for any daring member:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=168788

Ohhhh and I have a Q6600 here sat un-opened on my desk so we will be pretty close specs wise soon
Zen, it will be interesting to see what scores we come up with! I am reluctant to sell my E6850 though....it has been good to me......4.43Gigs worth of goodness

Yeah I have done hardmods to video cards but I agree Im not touching this thing with a soldering iron until I have got my 390.00 out of it.. ;)

That is a nice OC with the E6850, you wont get that outa the Q6600, though you will still get a great OC. I can push beyond 4ghz, but it takes so much Voltage its not worth it for an extra 150Mhz or so. I dont like feeding more then 1.55 volts to the chip, and am running just under that at 1.53. Anymore then that and the chip heats up my entire waterloop by about 8C.

I am very pleased with the MSI 8800GTS. I still haven't ran it, maybe tonight, but I know Im over 17K in 3dmark06 now. Which is almost double the score of a maxed oc'd 1900xtx. But the biggest proof has been in playing Crysis and Oblivion. Oblivion is almost a new game running at 1600x1200 with completely maxed out settings. In fact I had to start a new character just to experience it again, plus I got the GOTY expansion so more stuff to do.

Nice, I should get my card tomorrow, but I probably wont install it and the Quad until Friday, I have a week of pretty long days at work. I just hope my MSI gets near to the clocks you are getting! I assume that is on the stock double slot cooler?

Nope, its part of my waterloop. I only ran the stock fan long enough to make sure it booted and ran crysis. I then added my MCW60 gpu waterblock, and ram sinks. However I didnt have the good ramsinks just the cheap-o zaleman AL's, I did have 4 Vantec Coppers which I put on the Voltage regs. I ordered 2 sets of the swiftech coppers, that will help the ram get above 1070Mhz, hoping for 1100.

Well you could try using a multimeter and see if the Voltage has in fact increased. Or you could try to push it and see if its stable.

Haven't seen Tatty_One on here for a day or so, he must be installing his GTS. Maybe he will come back with a answer with NiBitor.

Lol, I'm back, it does not matter what you put in there, the cards max is 1.15V and thats all its physically possible to get without a hardmod. You can put 2.0V in there, software changes mean nothing if the hardware is regulated.

I assume the max clocks were tested before the BIOS mod was done so just test them again to see if you get any more.

Was actually waiting until my Swiftech Coppers came in to put on the Vregs and RAM...Im using those cheap-o zalemans and I know I will get a better OC with the copper. With better cooled vregs I should be able to run stable at 830Mhz on the core...hopefully. And with better cooled ram I should be able to hold 1100Mhz. I am able to run it at 1100 however it starts artifacting after about 20 minutes or so, so I know its a heat issue.

Why not shoot for my previous score of 16,989...Not a bad score, something to aim for at least.:toast:

Hello. I decided not to use Crysis for stability test.

The Core is now stable @ 800 (3h+ ati-tool + CPU-Caps), 810 for tonight maybe 820??

Nice overclock! Is that using the stock cooler? When I was using the stock cooler and pushed it to 820 my temps were almost in the 70's. Looks like yours is around 67C? You should still have a little more left in it.

It will be a massive boost for you. You probably wont be hitting 17K but I can see you getting very close to 15,000

You know with your nice cpu cooler you can certainly push the e6600 a lot higher then stock. Easy 2.8-3.0ghz.

Sorry, but I am not getting that big a boost out of mine. Of corse you seem to have some special version that lets you run the memory twice as fast as it is suppose to go and that is the highest clock on this GPU that I have seen.

Please show a screen shot of the "resutl details" so we can see what is your video card and what is your CPU.
Like this...

Also, I would like to see how you are getting above 1GHz on the meemory. Do you use ATI tool or Riva? Can you post a screen shot of those clocks?

Thanks for your thread.

Yes it was. Just wanted to see what the max I could get on stock air was before switching it up to the water loop. It was pretty loud though and not something I would want to do as a daily use machine.

I have screen shots all over the start of this thread. 3dmark05 and 3dmark06. Probably the first 6 posts...check em out. Though they do not show the results tab...Once I start benching this weekend with my ramsinks on I will upload the Results tab. I use Rivatuner 2.06.

BTW my card was a MIS 8800GTS, comes stock at 730Mhz...Pushing the ram from 975 to 1000 was easy. Thats only 25Mhz, and you are right I am above the rated speed on the RAM...1000 is what the chips are spec'd at but I have had mine as high as 1100, not stable, and due to cooling.

I am at 745/1000 and getting the same results in Crysis. But in 3Dmark06 you are blowing my system outta the water. It may be your CPU. :respect:
But I would like to see the details of the benchmark, as I have posted. This way I can see if I am pushing my card hard enough.

Also, what drivers are you using? What settings on 3Dmark06?

Thank you for this great thread and your hard work.

9435 points does seem a little low. I think thats what I was scoring with my x1900. As i said I am using Riva 2.06, the drivers I used where the ones supplied by MSI.

Your system specs aren't bad at all and I would have guessed around 11-13k for your score.
How many programs you have running in the background? Whats your PageFile usage at? You are using Vista, and Im on XP pro...so you know thats hurting your score a little, maybe 500+ points.

It could be all because of my CPU/RAM but even then I would expect your rig to post higher scores then that.

1Stvive's score is low, firstly because of the CPU score he will be getting in the CPU tests of 2006, Zen will probably be getting 3 times the CPU score but actually more importantly, 1Strives CPU is bottlenecking the card big time, if you read some of the current reviews for the GTS a couple of them run benches with Intel C2D's at 3Gig and comment that there is a "massive" bottleneck there, my guess from what I have read (and thats a lot!) is that a C2D running lower than 3.6Gig will bottleneck this card, we gotta remember that these at the default 2006 resolution of 1280 x 1024 are as fast, if not faster than a 8800GTX.
