Well eventually, there will be enough games, DX10+, driver, and brand support to make Vista very viable option. I ran it from release to about the end of June...Ultimate x32 (expensive ass os for sure!), then I started having some issues with online games, my audio/voip support, and a couple other things that were more annoying than issues. My last run of Vista in early-mid Fall had shown improvements in all those areas. To me it still didn't feel as "snappy" as I liked, and I didn't like how long it'd take to boot up. Granted I have my 500gb seagate 'cuda 7200.9 sata II (yes the jumper is removed to enable Sata 300, I also tried both IDE and ACHI modes), but it only reads around 53MB/s in HDTach. I know that Superfetch needs a minute or two after Vista loads, and that's fine.
It just wasn't for me yet, I love how it looks, I like the navigation tweaks, and all the nice little touches here and there, and yes it was stable...I didn't really have crashes or issues, but for some reason I decided to go back to XP. I was hoping to try out SP1 RC for Vista, which came out about 3 weeks after I put XP back on, so I'm trying SP3 RC1 for XP, it did seem to make the OS snappier than it already was for me, and I really do like that.
As I said before, everyone has their preferences, and I no longer say Vista=ME 2, as they have improved it a bit since I ran it for the first half of the year. Yet there's still some things that just work better in XP. I will go back to Vista...it will happen, to most of us I'm sure. But maybe Windows 7 will be released sooner-than-later, and we may see what MS has on the horizon. I just hope there's a gamer's performance version if they keep doing this 4-different versions crap.
You can't knock it till ya tried it, and Vista is not for everyone, but there isn't an OS out there that's for everyone and their wants/needs. But it doesn't hurt to play on new turf to see if it's worth your money and time.
