I've had this issue for a while now, and made a post about it a while back. I searched it up thinking I should bump it, but I couldn't find it so I'm making a new post.

I ordered a Sapphire 4830 512 not long ago, and even on day one I noticed that when I turn my computer off, I MUST turn the monitor off before turning my computer on again, otherwise my monitor would be in sleep mode. I've read about this issue on a review on Newegg I believe. I can't find it anymore, but I remember that the reviewer did not know of a solution.

Whenever I restart my computer, the monitor and mouse will not give me anything, monitor says "going into sleep mode" and the mouse doesn't light up.

I have a DVI/VGA adapter coming soon, possibly Monday, so I'll try going from VGA to DVI and see how it works. I'm sure there's a way to fix it, and I'm hoping I could find out on this forum.

Edit: New problem, my 4830 is said to be running at 2x. (GPU-Z screenie below.) I've tried resetting the CMOS and reseating the card. I only have 1 PCI-E slot on this board so trying another slot is not an option.

I ran into this website while I was doing my research:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=92970
Does it seem like the case here? My board is actually a 2x?

No wait... let me print screen.

I did not have this problem with my onboard. Noticed it the moment I installed the HD 4830 and had to reboot.

I hate to bump this, but I still haven't gotten this problem fixed. I'm not exactly in a rush, but with all things in life, the faster I resolve the problem the easier I'll sleep at night! ^_^

I noticed your card is running @ x2 instead of PCI-E x16. Try reseating the card or clear CMOS see if it helps.

I only have 1 PCI-E slot in this machine, so I'm not sure what you mean by it running at x2 as opposed to x16. I'll reseat the card tonight, but how do I clear the CMOS?

It means something is wrong with the speed that your video card is running at. The video card should be running at the full 16x speed but GPU-Z is reporting that its only running at 2x. This is not good because pci-e 2x is a huge bottleneck for a 4830. Obviously something is wrong. I agree reseat the card and clear the cmos. You can clear the cmos by putting/moving a jumper on the right motherboard pins, it should say how in your motherboard manual. You could also just take out the little battery on the motherboard for about a minute then put it back in.

Check your mobo manual, it will tell you how in there ;) In comparison to other 4830 BIOSes I have seen yours is old. The two most common 4830 BIOSes I have seen are 011.015 and 011.018.

I figured the 4830 should've been giving me more than just a 100-200 FPS boost on GunZ: The Duel. My onboard was getting me around 200, and this gets me like 300.

Unfortunately, I do not have my motherboard manual as the computer was store bought, so I'll have to do some Youtubing to figure out how to put/move a jumper on the right of the motherboard pins? If you have any videos/tutorials please do link me to them.

Removing the battery seems like the easier solution, too bad I have no idea where it is. ^_^

I'm guessing I'll have to flash the BIOS somewhere along the road... never flashed anything before so I'm more than eager to learn!

Step 1: Locate CMOS battery. (open the case up and you will quickly find it) If you choose this metho over locating the CMOS jumper, remember to remove the power cord from the PSU.

Step 2: Email Sapphire. Tell them the problem you are having and ask if there is a updated BIOS version you can try.

I've reseated the card and took out the battery for a minute or so, put it back in and it still reads the same; PCI-E 16x @ 2x.

I looked in the BIOS and one line read:

Primary Video Adapter: [PCI]

I had the option to do PCI-E or onboard, I tried PCI-E but I couldn't see a difference.

In CCC under Graphics Hardware:

Graphics Bus Capability: PCI Express 2.0
Maximum Bus Setting: PCI Express 2.0 x2

Also, every time I boot, there is a page giving me lines of information, the only two lines I remember are BIOS Shadow Status: Shadowed something about a video being shadowed as well. At the bottom it says: [F1] Setup [F2] Continue.
It doesn't go away until I select either F1 or F2, how can I stop this?

Just to get some things straight... I do connect the GPU to my PSU via a PCI-E connector right?

Yes the video card needs to be plugged into the PSU. If it isnt the video card will probably say a message at boot saying that its not getting the external power it needs and it won't allow the pc to post.

Just doing to bump this, still running @ 2x. Could this be a problem with the GPU? Had I known sooner I'd have RMA'ed this, pretty sure I'm over my RMA period now.

Open to suggestions. I haven't tried cleaning out the mobo yet, and Sapphire hasn't replied to my email.
